Music you are a little ashamed to have in your Mp3 collection.

Rock Me Amadeus by Falco.
Catch You Catch Me opening song to Cardcaptor Sakura

And some others I’ve since deleted.

What on Earth is embarrassing about that?

Most of my collection I’m not ashamed of. I’m a reforming music snob that is just starting to find some good pop from the last few decades. Even that stuff I’m not ashamed of.

I have “Stupid Cupid,” the Mandy Moore version, not the Connie Francis version. She sang it in The Princess Diaries and she looked really hot, so downloaded the song and listen to it every once in a while.

I have “Objection (Tango)” by Shakira. Sure, she’s damn hot, but I really like the song. And she plays the guitar. And she’s from Colombia. Some weird force of nature requires I listen to that song everyday.

Rock Me Amadeus by Falco
Toy Soldiers by Martika
I Do What I Do by John Taylor
King for a Day by Thompson Twins
Goodbye and Holler by The Spice Girls
Look at Me by Geri Halliwell
Somebody’s Watching Me by Rockwell

Here’s the kicker. I have no downloaded mp3s. All of my mp3s were ripped from CDs I actually own.

…it’s very hard to admit to… Milli Vanilli…

I have two that are somewhat dubious.

No me ames by Mark Anthony and Jennifer Lopez

Big Pimpin Indian Remix, Artist Unknown

I have virtually nothing I am embarrassed by (not even my copy of “Shape of my Heart” by the Backdoor Boys). However, there is something I am proud to have: Shakira’s “Ojos Asi,” the original Spanish version of “Eyes like That/Yours”

I first heard of Shakira when I was in Mexico, and downloaded this song because it was all of her stuff that I could find. (Hell, I lived in Ohio; where was I going to buy an album in Spanish? I had never even SEEN a Hispanic person there. No joke.) I couldn’t understand exactly what she was saying, but knew I LOVED it! A year later, her English-language album “Laundry Service” came out, and my brush with avante-gardism came to an end.
There have been some attempts to paint Shakira as a blond pop princess, a la Britney Spears or Christina Aguilera. Don’t believe it. She’s a lot closer to Alanis Morrissette after she came to U.S., except Shakira has always been that way. Anyone who ever heard her before she was big here can attest to what a BIG DEAL she has been south of the border for years.

Ummm… quite a varied collection on my computer right now. The worst has to be the eight different Chumbawamba albums. I used to love their earlier stuff, but now I just find it nonsensical and almost embarassing to listen to.

Other stuff which people rip the piss out of me for includes Erasure (my favourite), Aqua, Mike Oldfield and The Human League. Not the most trendy, up to date music, but I like it anyway. Some of the songs have a great tune, some have great lyrics, and others just make me happy or take me back to a certain time in my life. That’s what music is all about when all’s said and done.

Oops, I did it again, got lost in the game, Oh baby baby oops, you think I’m in looove…that I’m sent from aboooove… I’m not that innocent…

-glances over her MusicMatch library- Well about half the stuff in here is my roomie’s but I’m not ashamed of any of mine. Though according to him I should be ashamed for various songs/MP3’s like:

Butterfly Kisses by Bob Carlisle
Coffee Flavoured Coffee by Dennis Leary
I am NOT Canadian by AU*
Forever Knight theme song by Nigel Bennet
Slayers (LaCroix Remix) by AU
Dark Side of the Glass by AU
The Scotsman by Irish Rovers
American Remains by Highwaymen
When Angels Love Bad Men by Highwaymen
Highwayman by Highwaymen
The Last Cowboy Song by Highwaymen
Gimme the Prize by Queen
Possum Kingdom by The Toadies

[sub]*AU meaning Artist Unknown[/sub]

Ones my roomie might be ashamed of though are
Homer Explains the Muppets
Manamana by the Muppets
Muppets Theme (Techno Mix) by KMFDM
Rubber Ducky
Swedish Chef Song
South Park Cartman Tea Party
Don’t Cry For Me Argentina by Me First and the Gimme Gimmes

Yah we don’t have a lot of MP3’s (only 126 as my space is very limited considering all the stuff the roomie downloads. Books and such.) but they are great ones.

I have a few Spice Girls songs, which are kind of incongruous. I don’t think they’d embarrass me, however.

Wow, where to start? Number one embarressment would be “Terry Jacks_Seasons in the Sun” , then onto less schlocky stuff such as “Chevy Van”_Sammy Johns", I have some fairly hayseedy Kris Kristofferson_Lovin’ Her Was Easier". I love em all though. They all bring back memories of certain times and people. Unfortunately the poor souls who have to listen to these pieces of my life didn’t have these people and memories to think about when these songs play and only here the music. I feel bad for them.

Savage Garden, I Knew I Loved You Before I Met You, a lot of Journey, some Bon Jovi, and One Night In Bangkok by Murray Head. Oh, also, It’s Not Easy Being Green

Most of the time I listen to Arabic or Goth/EBM. I have a nice KMFDM version of Material Girl. Also Rammstein doing a cover of Barbie Girl.

Does anyone have Dreams of an Everyday Housewife? That’s one of the most disgusting songs I’ve ever heard.

Falco Rocks! No need to be ashamed of that.

I have Ozzy’s cover of “Stayin’ Alive”. Not only that, but I play it on purpose.

Doper DoctorJ statrted a thread a while back about how bad Christmas Shoes by Bob Carlisle was. I had to hear it so I DLed it. He was right.

I checked my folder last night and it’s still there.

[sub](and I’m intrigued by this “Big Pimpin Indian Remix” of which you speak)[/sub]

Well, the first ones that come to mind are Roger Miller’s Chug-a-lug and King of the Road, though I feel those are almost so kitschy they’re cool. I’m not ashamed of it, but my friends pick on me because I listen to stuff like * Along Comes Mary * (which still sounds great after 85 years) by The Association, and especially all the gimmicky stuff like I Wanna be a Cowboy, I’m too Sexy, & 19.

But, being of the liberal/feminist persuasion, maybe the absolute most embarassing, the ones I only listen to with headphones are… I like Big Butts and Black Betty!

Makes we wanna sing Hi-de-Ho

Hey, I have it too! I think it’s great! Does anybody know when and where it was first published, if ever?

Lydia the Tattoed Lady by Kermit the Frog is the one that I am embarassed to own, along with Gene Pitney singing a female part in a duet with George Jones…
