Music you are a little ashamed to have in your Mp3 collection.

As do I. I know the guy on guitar is Dweezil Zappa. I know Dweezil had some kind of game show on USA that Ozzy was on one night, and I know they usually did a musical number…but that’s all I know.

A weird force of nature requires that I play it too, but I think it has something to do with the fact that I’m male. But seriously - Sweet God - Look at her! She’s hot, foreign/exotic, has an incredible voice, and is a very talented dancer. Every woman should be required to learn how to dance like that.

That aside, I think I’ve got everyone beat as far as what I’ve got - the entire soundtrack to the movie Legends - you know, the one where Tom Cruise runs around trying to stop the Darkness and get the unicorn’s horn and save Lily? Every piece is by … gasp … Tangerine Dream.

That parody of Will the Real Slim Shady Please Shut Up, or something like that.

She’s a medium-talented bellydancer, from what I’ve heard. Meh. I know lots of seriously good bellydancers… and dammit, I was doing it before she was!

I didn’t originally think it would be embarrassing for me to have this in my MP3s, but one time a coworker came up to me, saw the title on the screen and asked me why I was listening to it when he knew that I liked heavy metal. I told him that I have a wide range of musical tastes, after which he razzed me, saying that my girlfriend was turning me into a pussy for liking such music. I’m like, “okay, whatever…”

No, you don’t, I have both that Shakira song and also the Tangerine Dream of which you speak. Neener neener!

I never knew I was supposed to be embarrassed about the TD, though.

All seven songs from Elton John’s Victim of Love.

My ABBA collection. :o

A large amount of Nightwish mp3s.

Since they are so obscure i’ll describe the group as a metal/goth/opera/rock thing with a female vocalist.

Friends have literally asked me to please use headphones if they’re here.

Cafe Society.

I have a remake of Pink Floyd’s “Comfortably Numb” that a friend sent to me. Keep in mind that I do like Pink Floyd, so this song should send me screaming, but this is a fun song in a very twisted way. I think the group that did it was something like the Scissors Sisters, and it sounds like a cover done by the Bee Gees, with a little dance and J-pop influence. I laughed my ass off when I first heard it, and kept it.

Oh, and I added Chicago’s “25 or 6 to 4” after reading the Straight Dope column on it (via the site).

As a Finn, it’s still a bit weird for me to hear someone talking about Nightwish as ‘obscure’.

I have “One Tin Soldier”, “Rocky I’ve Never Been In Love Before” and three songs by Ms. Helen Reddy. In addition, I have several songs by the Partridge Family, including the rare " Stephanie" from the episode with Bobby Sherman.

Oh, and “Daddy, Don’t You Walk So Fast” by Wayne Newton.

Hardly anyone here in the US has heard of In Flames either, this really is a backward country.

On this computer there is the stuff I’ve downloaded: Split Enz, Crowded House, The Smiths, Duran Duran, Finn Brothers, KMFDM,

And i have also downloaded: “Africa,” yep, by Toto, and “Dream On” by Aerosmith, “Movies” by Alien Ant Farm. “Kyrie” by Mr.Mister,

I also have an Mp3 of “The Weather Episode” which is Snoop and Dre rapping “the Next Episode” over the music to “Weather With You” by Crowded House!
Other Mp3 files include, Fiona Apple, Christina Aguilera, Madonna, Dispatch , Dave Matthews band, Our Lady Peace, some Staind and a lot more Aerosmith.

This reminds me of the bluegrass version of Snoop Dog’s Gin and Juice by the Gourds. Great stuff. I prefer it, actually.

My most embarassing song on my MP3 player is the Rainbow Brite techno remix. It totally rocks, is really catchy, and annoys the shit out of most people. That generally means I love it.

I have a lot of totally bizarre things too. I have a good collection of filk. I have a song by Chaos that is called “Do you hear the pipes, Cthulhu,” to the tune of Abba’s Fernando. Another that really rocks but is so dorky to be embarassing.

Read it and weep: http://home.hawaii.rr.com/dkwff/other/mp3list.html

Yes, all those files were, in fact, downloaded by the same person.

Not ashamed of a single one…if I were, I wouldn’t keep them, let alone make them downloadable by others. I take pride in not being close-minded or obeying herd mentality. (Also, there’s that “hatred fatigue” thing I’ve mentioned a number of times.)

Some notes:

  • A lot of these I downloaded mainly due to curiosity, especially for niche bands like Bauhaus, Crazy Town, Five Iron Frenzy, Indigo Girls, and Sisters of Mercy. I don’t understand the methods or motives behind any of these, I just want alternatives to songs I can hear on the radio anytime.

  • Barbie Girl is the one Aqua song I absolutely will NOT listen to anymore. I’m starting to think they did it as a joke, since it bears only a slight resemblance to any of their other work, all of which IMHO is a whole lot better. Why is it that so many bands get ruined by one song?

  • I’ve taken songs from some really niche bands, but deleted them because…well, I just didn’t like it. Moxy Fruvous is one…I tried, really, but I just don’t get this kind of “geek rock”.

  • Nearly all the Korean songs are on Pump It Up (this arcade dancing game from new-company-on-the-block Andamiro). I had absolutely NO interest in Korean music before that game came to our shores.

well, if caricci don’t win it (that rocky thing is strong juju), i will.
