Musical travel

Have you ever ridden the train they call The City Of New Orleans, and how far did you travel ‘fore the day was done?

I used to ride it from Champagne-Urbana to Chicago back in the 70’s, so yes…but not really that far.

Great North Special, were you on board? You can’t find a ride like that no more.

Anyone ever fly from London to LA, over the pole? Not sure if there are chickens allowed in the cabins anymore.

I gained my independence a little too late to get my kicks on route 66.

I’ve ridden the City of New Orleans from Greenwood, MS to Chicago and back, so I guess about 2/3 of the route? It was nice to have done once, but only cheaper than flying because I had a colleague going to the same conference to share a roomette with, so I probably won’t ever do it again.

I have been on the original, actual Route 66, or at least small parts of it before I-44 and I-55 were completely finished In Missouri and Illinois. Some of it was two-lane. Even so, it was still the highway that was the best.

In Chicago, I’ve walked down State Street (that great street).

I’ve driven on the New Jersey Turnpike, and counted the cars. Apparently, they all came to look for America.

For many a lonely day we sailed across the milky seas. Really it was only a year, but a century passed for those at home.

Was there an airport in Miami Beach into which you could fly BOAC?

Aboard the Good Ship Venus, you really should’ve seen us…

I have gone running back to Saskatoon many times to visit my family; I probably sang a prairie tune on at least a few of those occasions.

The Marrakesh Express is an overnight train between Marrakesh and Tangier. Some friends are taking it next week.

Althought the locals in Marrakesh use the term for the donkey carts that move goods around the medina.

I, too, have traveled (and gotten my kicks) on portions of Rte 66. Including standing on a corner in Winslow, Arizona.

For the Jonathan Richman & the Modern Lovers fans, driving 128 at night is a pretty common occurance.

Of the 94 places named in Johnny Cash’s version of “I’ve Been Everywhere”, 84 of them can be found in the United States. Of those 84, I have currently been to 69 of them. I have a map flagged with the each of them and am attempting to reach them all as I travel around the country on vacations and such. Only 15 more to go!

Please give us the list (so far), I beg of you!

I slip on by on LSD reasonably often. (Lake Shore Drive, now DuSabale Lake Shore Drive.)

I’ve been to…
Del Mar
Ventura County line
Santa Cruz and Trestles
All over Manhattan
And down Doheny way
Haggerties and Swamis
Pacific Palisades
San Onofre and Sunset
Redondo Beach, LA
All over La Jolla
And Waimea Bay

But I ain’t never been to Australia’s Narrabeen, which, damn it, Brian, isn’t in the U.S.A!

I’m sure I’m not alone in having driven on I-95.

Have you ever seen Dallas from a DC-9 at night?

Going faster mikes an hour!
