Last night I got to see a sneak preview of a movie called Saint Ralph, set in the 50’s. it’s about a 14-yr old boy who believes that if he wins the Boston Marathon his mother will wake up out of her coma. It was a good movie, but also got me thinking about what other movies are there about running or in which running plays a major role. So far all I have come up with are:
Without Limits is another movie about 1972 Olympian Steve Prefontaine, starring Billy Crudup as Prefontaine and Donald Sutherland as his coach Bill Bowerman.
Without Limits was pretty good (and may be the same movie as Pre, or did they make two movies about the same guy. The one I saw had Donald Sutherland).
Stretching here, but the Animatrix had a cool short about a runner who ran himself straight out of the Matix.
This picture here shows that casting Robby Benson wasn’t so far off as it might seem.
My friend is the daughter of Billy Mills. He’s spoken at our kids’ school. Brings his gold medal to show the kids and gives inspirational speeches. He’s a great guy.
I don’t really remember how good it was, but The Terry Fox Story was a made-for-TV, true-story movie about an amputee (one leg due to cancer) who runs across Canada to raise cancer awareness.
