ok, so yet again, I have to cover an overnight shift for this woman who is constantly sick, constantly late, and now due to the “possibility” of what the hurricane was supposed to do to the dc area, she called in that she couldn’t make it at like 9 am thursday morning, before even the first raindrop fell. yet, nothing is ever done to her, she is not written up, warned, reprimaned or anything. instead, I get stuck working a 12 hour shift so she can stay home safe and snug, and I get stuck dealing with the idiot residents who constantly call up to tell me that their windows are leaking…hello did you look outside, we have high winds and rain, ain’t nothing I can do about that, I am not OG. it jsut so irks me taht some people getaway with everything while the “single” guy has to do all the crap shifts. jsut because I can’t marry and have kids in this country of the “free” does not mean I am free at everyone else’s whims to cover every shift. sorry. I AM NOT GOING TO PUT UP WITH THIS ANY MORE!!!
Managers and such assume that if you’re single without children, you have more time to spend working for them.
It’s really stupid that nothing is being done about her behavior. Now, what can easily be done is a schedule change. Is she working full or part-time? The manager or whoever can make changes and schedule her to come in less often, and maybe hire someone else to make up for it. That way, if she is still finding trouble coming to work when she isn’t even scheduled to come in all the time, then it might become more clear to the people in charge that something needs to be done.
I’m sorry you have to work those shifts all the time - but think about the extra money you’re getting because of it. That’s what I do. I take as much as I can get, let my managers know that I am more than willing to cover shifts if needed…I need the money, and I have the time.
thanks AfterAugust. unfortunately, I will not get any extra pay for the shift, unless I work my regular 8 hours tomorrow from 3-11pm, after getting off here at 7am.
my boss was down here earlier, and commented about her, and basically telling her that she will work 2 night shifts a week starting in Nov, because we do scheduels a month in advance, and I already got Oct’s done. we all work full time, and I know my boss is unhappy wiht her, but the big manager is the one who can only do the warnigns/fireings. what really bums me out, is we had a guy who used to do the same sutff, and he got a talking to and really turned around and was doign great, but he was late one day by like 10 mins because of a traffic accident, and he got fired for not being in on time after being warned. it just seems to be a double standard around here. I know I probably will get flammed for saying this next statement, but this is the first time I have ever had this opinion of any boss I have ever had…I really think the big boss, a woman, is a sexist, and loves to discriminate against the few men that work here. she has driven out almost all the men. in the year I have worked here, we have lost 4 men, and only had one woman driven out or fired. and the men who left were replaced with women.
