You must be talking about gene therapy. Yes that is an awesome program and offers so much hope. Groundbreaking indeed. Can’t wait to see some results from the clinical trial getting underway.
The promise of a gene therapy benefit for Getty is uncertain.
Lots of variables there.
The mice had a short treatment window, so whether gene therapy can have much or any benefit for older SMA kids is a big question. How many motor neurons have died? What function can be saved or rehabilitated from existing motor neurons?
Nonhuman primate studies show the narrow treatment window found in mice may not be so narrow for primates. So that’s promising.

Miss Getty does have great hair, it almost sparkles in the sun. What a little beauty she’s growing into!

She loved it!
For the past 3 years, I would take her out to the event, visit all the vendor booths we have set up in the park, and mingle with people.
This is the first year I ran the event with her. We did the 5k, and I pushed her along.
The weather was perfect and the view along the Sacramento River was gorgeous. She hooted and squealed with joy much of the way and also enjoyed all the attention afterward.
I saw this on her FB page. What you all have accomplished so far is amazing. And Getty is growing up fast!
My goodness, she is getting big! And I concur with everyone else… she’s quite the charming young lady. Bless your family for doing so much to help others and raise awareness. It’s a beautiful sight to behold. Just wish I was closer to watch it all in action.
