All I can say is ‘agus’.
Oohh we need to get you either two other verbs or two other nouns to put on either side of that Anahita… hmmm let me think.
God my Irish is so fucked, basterdbitchirishtecher! I was fluent as a kid, 5 years with this teacher wiped my mental HD. She “taught” me Irish and Latin for 5 years and I can’t string a sentance. I got myself university level swedish in 6 months, and spoke fluent french after two years of non-immersed through secondary school. I blame her totally and fully for fucking two languages for me. Bitchfromhell.
Lets see… Bainne agus suicre? That could be a useful one, milk and sugar?
I’m surprised the good old Póg Ma Thóin hasn’t come up!
The first bit of irish I picked up was Conós ata tu, fortunately.
tThe day after I was told Pog ma Thoin meant the same thing
It didn’t take
oh, and Iteki:
Bainne úr!
A Chairde,
Níl mórán Gaeilge agam.
Scríobhaigí chugam as Gaeilge, más é bhur dtoil é.
Le buíochas,
Aro
Come on admit it you’re as Irish as the rest of us, in fact more so than some
You’re right. I have a bit of Irish in me (from time to time).
:rimshot:
I don’t think that the IRA is a romantic group-I think they’re a bunch of murderous thugs. I was just sayin’.
Of course, I’m also re-reading Morgan Llywelyn’s 1916, so it’s on my mind.
If I may hijack this thread even further (does it count as a hijack if it’s your own thread?) – how many years of Irish do y’all have to take in school? And how old are most kids when they start?
Heh does it count as a hijack when the thread has already passed through about 8 subjects?
Most kids start “real school” between the ages of 4 and 5, and start Irish then. I believe 8 years of primary school and then 5 or 6 more (depending on the school) for secondary school. If children have been to pre-school they may have started learning some words then. Like airplane eitlean.
Iteki - wouldn’t know a fada if it jumped up and bit me on the arse
Re “Erin Go Bragh” there is, in fact, an Irish phrase go brách which means “forever”, and is probably the source of the phrase.
Shit, I musta missed that on the first run through the foclóir
go brách ((in abairt) go deo, go deireadh an tsaoil) go on the ruadh
way back in the middle of the post
someone…cant remember who… asked this
I’m suprised. Over 60 posts, and NO ONE has determined the worst thing about Ireland.
i thought everyone knew…its the weather
Actually, I think it’s the pizza.
Denny’s sausages
The smell of hay
Walking along a quiet road
The sound of a west Ireland brogue
Standing at the top of a hill and seeing 100 fields, each one a different shade of green
Beano, Beezer, and Cor magazines
These are a few of my favorite Irish things
Dana, is that you?
Ruadh… go to Gino’s in Cork or Waterford
youl soon change yer mind
Some more of my favorite Irish things:
waking up to see the just-milked cows grazing outside my bedroom window
a Flake bar in vanilla ice cream
watching the dogs chase a jackrabbit through a field
hearing the hum of a car engine approach and seeing the car drive past the gate
seeing some old-timer driving a cart pulled by a donkey
Yeah, I’ve heard that about a few different pizza places. Usually they end up being the yuckiest of all
I dunno…I live in the hot and dry, where every hill is a different color of brown, but I’m not sure I want to live in Ireland and be damp all the time. Tends to keep the temperature in, whether hot or cold.
Do blue skies happen in Ireland? I haven’t seen one in any pictures.
no were lucky here… we get pink skies with yellow polka dots…
ruadh…trust me…
