My Boyfriend Proposed, So I Broke Up With Him

I’m not bitter that I live in Jersey. I’m proud of my bourgeois credentials:

House in the 'burbs? Check.

Husband? Check.

Child? Check.

Dog? Check.

Station Wagon? Check. Heck, it’s an Outback, so I get credit in both the station wagon and SUV categories. Rock on!

No fair.

Green Bean has a station wagon and I don’t.

Somebody owes me a station wagon and a dog.

Maybe suspenderzzz’ ex will buy them for you. He’s got a trust fund and everyone knows what an enthusiastic supporter of conventiality that friggin guy is.

My apologies to Uncle Beer and the thread readers. I really am sorry I didn’t count to 10. It won’t happen again.

This non-conformist thing is sounding better and better. I’m thinking of becoming non-conformist too!

All I need now is for a rich elderly couple to adopt me and set me up with a nice trust fund so I can quit my job and be non-conformist.

Any takers?

Oh yeah, do I need to buy a new wardrobe? I’m new to this non-conformity thing.

Do you have to own an dog to be a bourgeois? What about a cat?

Or is that non-conformist? Actually, owning a slug as a pet would probably be rather non-conformist. Particulary as a pet.

My question is: Why the Bohemian disdain for the bourgeois, who in my dictionary, are the middle class? I mean these are the people that own the small businesses, these are the people who create a huge chunk of the economy by working and spending.

Shouldn’t a true Bohemian hate the Rich, since they own the corporations and for the most part don’t have to work for a living, pollute the environment, opress the prols, fire people so they can give themselves bonuses and then cut services all the same, etc, etc, etc?

ponders the irony of people who hate “the establishment” and yet have rich parents, or benefit directly from those with rich parents

Unemployed(hopefully not much longer) Wannabe bourgeois

I’m not certain, but I think you need black. Lots of black.

Sitting around in coffee shops bemoaning the struggles of the non-conformist lifestyle while simultaneously mocking those who are different than you, dressed in any other color, simply isn’t done. *

*Please note that this post is not intended in any way to denigrate or stereotype those who choose black as their clothing of choice. Black clothing can be very nice. Besides, I understand it’s quite thinning.

I just wonder…my husband is eight years older than me. Was I trying to marry my father???

P.S. I got married when I was 21!!! And I can’t WAIT until we own our own house so we can HAVE a dog and kids. I wouldn’t want it any other way. (We’ll work on the minivan later - my first car was a Saturn.)

Yanno, I didn’t know people were still even USING the word “bourgeois” anymore…
