No, seriously. This isn’t an attention grabber; this really is a question about my breasts.
Namely, their size. I am a 22 year-old woman, and I have the breasts of a chubby 12 year-old boy. They have little roundness to them – they’re more triangular – and they look nothing much like adult female breasts. Naturally, this causes me some distress.
No other adult female in my family has breasts this small; they all weighing in at B or C or D cups, whereas I, if I were to wear a bra at all, it would wear a AA. Or my old training bras from Jr high. Sigh.
When I was 17 I had my first (and only) full physical exam, and when the doctor was doing the breast exam she mentioned in passing that she could tell by the shape of my breasts that they haven’t finished growing yet. 5 years later they still haven’t done a damn thing.
So, my question is: WTF? All the other effects of puberty seem to have hit me just fine. My hips curve, I have body hair a-plenty, my period is like clockwork; it’s just as if when they hormone fairies got to my breasts, they said, “Aw, screw it.” The only causes I can think of would be that I started drinking coffee when I was 15 (does coffee actually stunt growth, or is that just an urban legend?) and that I’ve been vegetarian since I was 16.
And is there anything I can do to rectify this? I don’t wanna look like Pam Anderson, but it’d be nice to at least look like a female. What’re in those breast enhancement pills, the one that claim to reawaken your body’s growth process? Do they actually work (I doubt it)? They claim to be herb-based; is there some herb I could take instead?
Poor baby. You could have some of mine, as I’ve got more than I care for. I doubt it’s the vegetarian aspect, as I’ve been veggie since I was thirteen.
Don’t know what your general body type is, but I’d guess that if you gained a little weight, some of it would end up enhancing that general area. You should probably have another full check-up to see what the doctor thinks is happening.
Tried a push-up bra? That’s the only thing I can think of.
A lot of women living with a big, jiggling shelf of uncooperative flesh attached to their chest might disagree with you. Big breasts are lot more fun for lookers than the owners. You ought to leave them alone unless it’s really driving you around the bend. Speaking as a man I think “natural” is always better when it comes to breasts unless there some illness or deformity involved. If you do decide to go the plastic surgery route bear in mind that you will be living with these friends for a long, long time and big breasts have as many problems as small ones. You might want to start small(er).
There are no pills or creams that will have a really significant impact on healthy breast. Knives and saline bags are the main route. As a side note women with smaller breasts often notice that getting pregnant takes them up a size or two even post pregnancy but that’s a pretty dramatic route to take just to get larger breasts, however it might be something to possibly look forward to when you do decide to make a family.
While the likeliest possibility is that you are simply a naturally small-breasted woman, it is possible that you have a hormone imbalance. I would advise you to see a doctor about this as soon as possible. There are many health problems associated with low estrogen levels and other hormone imbalances, and the sooner any such problem is detected the better.
When I was 22 I weighed just under 7 stone - about 98 pounds? I was about 5ft 1" tall and I had NO breasts. Just a couple of dots to indicate where they should be.
My breasts actually arrived unexpectedly in my mid-20’s, and I’m now a 34B/C (Left one’s a C, right one’s a B ).
Looking back, I guess I really was a late developer physically. I grew an inch and a half in my early twenties and my figure developed in my mid twenties.
[Mild and lopsided hijack] I read somewhere once that the left breast is always larger than the right. Am I delusional? [/hijack]
I am trying not to make light of your plight, but that line made me laugh out loud.
Whatever the case you should be talking to your doctor. Hopefully you have one who is sensitive to your concerns.
Certainly by now you know that you need to pass on any person, male or female, who judges you on the size/shape of your breasts. If you choose, eventually, to do something like surgery to make yourself feel better, good for you, if you don’t, good for you.
T’was s’posed to.
Thanks fer yer help, everyone. I’ll add “go to doctor” to the list of things to do once I have money, but in the meantime I s’pose I’ll just live it.
I have that exact same problem (size, I mean; mine developed at what appears to be the normal time). I have, like, a B and a half on the right and a C and a half on the left so I wear a C bra and hope it evens out… Anyway, I take a strange form of comfort in knowing that I’m not completely freakish if there’s somebody else like that out there.
There is nothing wrong with your breasts. Breasts of that size are perfectly normal. It is sad that the emphasis our society places on larger breasts leads women to feel as though they are imperfect or incomplete people. Fuck that image, you’re just fine.
I hope this doesn’t sound too obnoxious, but a visit to the doctor is a good idea because you’re old enough that you should be getting an annual pelvic exam. A women’s clinic like Planned Parenthood usually provides appointments at very low cost or on a sliding scale based on your income. At that time, you could ask the doctor, "Hey, do these look normal to you?]
The female contraceptive pill, depending upon which brand, can increase some women’s breast size. Some a little, some a lot. A little weight gain, which is commonly associated with ‘the pill’ would not account for the extra. Dianette does the job pretty well and is recommended to reduce acne also. Of course it may be called something different outside the UK, it is made by Schering Health and contains cyproterone acetate 2mg & ethinyloestradiol 35micrograms.
(As with all hormone/contraceptive medication, there may be risks and side effects, so the usual warnings apply.)
I feel I must urge you to not put this on a “things to do someday” list, but to arrange to see a doctor as soon as possible. I don’t want to alarm you, but hormonal imbalances are sometimes the first noticeable symptoms of other serious problems, problems that could take years to fully manifest. If you have a hormone imbalance it is important to get a diagnosis soon, not only to treat it but to determine its cause so that can also be treated as necessary.
I have huge breast. Breasts so huge, Cecil himself has written a column about them, sort of.
I love having large breasts. I like having them admired and played with and I don’t have backaches because of them. Early on I did some weight training, mainly military presses and that helped build up my back muscles so that I have not had any breast related back problems.
I suppose the OP is my opposite on the bell curve. Variation is natural. I knew a woman who normally had nearly an A cup and she produced enough milk for her son and was a milk donor. After nursing, they shrank again until they looked like mostly empty baggies that could maybe hold half a sandwich if pressed.
