I was checking my voice mail messages earlier, when I got one from my dad.
My brother popped the question to his girlfriend, and she said yes. My mother drove to Dallas to give him my grandmother’s engagement ring, then drove back to San Antonio.
I still can’t quite get my mind wrapped around this. My brother is, well, my little brother. He will forever go out of his way to pester his older sister, because that’s what little brothers do. I can’t fathom my brother as a family man, although he has shown signs of it in terms of being an enthusiastic uncle to Aaron.
Amy, his fiancee, is a very nice girl. She works with a children’s theater group in Dallas. I met her at Thanksgiving, and she stayed after my aunt’s drunken tirades, earning major brownie points with the 'rents. She also loves Aaron, earning major brownie points with Aaron’s mommy.
They’re planning to get married this summer, I think. Mom has offered the use of their front yard, which is laid out like a park, for the ceremony.
Welcome to the family, Amy!
