My Cat has the Hiccups

Or just had the hiccups.

I was in the bathroom, and Tippy jumped up on the sink beside me. She had just finished breakfast. Settling down on the sink, her lower chest twitched spasmodically and she gave her lips a little lick. Not a big kitty ‘l just ate, time to clean’ lick, but the little serpent’s tongue ‘I’m annoyed’ lick. Her lower chest twiched about five times, and she gave the little lick after each twitch.

Then her hiccups stopped, and she curled up into the sink to relax. She’s still there as I’m typing this.

I’ve never seen a cat have hiccups before that I can remember.

Heh. That’s funny. I had a foster cat one time who passed gas on the regular. She looked shocked everyone she did it.

Odd. I’ve never had a cat who farted regularly. I guess on an all meat diet, they don’t build up too much gas.

I do remember one of my late cats, Razzy, who climbed into his litter box one day and let go of a fart that could be heard in three rooms of the house. It was discussed at length by the whole human family for the rest of the day, and I still remember it twenty years later.

I can’t remember all my computer passcodes, but I remember my cat Razzy’s fart.

I’ve had dogs that would get the hiccups. It was so amusing because the dog would walk around with a confused look on its face as if thinking, “What’s happening? Why is there an earthquake in my stomach?”

Oh, cats fart. They’re just good at blaming the dog.

Growing up on a farm, I’ve seen this, I’ve seen cows hiccup and horses especially. The “baby” animals tend to get them more frequently.
