My computer did me a favor!

A few moments ago, while happily perusing this board, I suddenly noticed that the upper Windows toolbars had disappeared. You know, the ones containing the Favorites Bar, and the block where you type in the name of the site that you want to visit, and so forth. This caused a few monents of panic, but then I found that by placing the cursor at the very top of the screen the bars would come back, and could be used as normally. But then, moving the cursor out of that area would cause them to vanish again.

This is great, because it gives me at least three more lines of screen space to devote to the actual stuff I’m doing. My question is, what in the world did I do to make this wonderful thing happen? I’d like to know so that I can do it again if it becomes necessary.

This is I think the first time I’ve accidentally done something to the computer that wasn’t a bad mistake.

Press F-11 to toggle “Full Screen” on and off.

Which is really easy to hit by accident if you miss the backspace button and if you’re typing you might not notice it right away.

Thanks, voltaire. I’ll bet that’s in a list of shortcuts somewhere, which I’m going to immediately try to find to see if there are any other useful gems buried therein.

It is totally absurd how long I have been using computers and still don’t know things like this. :smack:

The only problem with full screen mode is that on a wide-screen monitor (mine is 1920 pixels wide) it can be difficult to read text when a single row contains 300+ characters. I have my (Firefox) browser configured like this. It maximizes the vertical space by getting rid of unnecessary tool bars and buttons and combining everything into one bar.
