MY computer shuts down when connected to internet!

Please help me. I get an error box which gives me a one minute countdown to save my stuff. It says remote procedure call service was terminated unexpectdly.

I have 10 seconds left.

Please help!

Okay, before I get disconnected again,

I am running Windows XP, home edition,

I am not behind a firewall,

and the problem seems to have started on one account and then spread to others about 10 minutes later.

And I just noticed someone else on the board is having an identical problem.

Perhaps this is a problem up at Microsoft or something? Maybe XP does some check-in with MS’s network or something like that, and something’s gone wrong with that?

Just taking a stab…

Okay, time before shutdown 25 seconds… :frowning:

This is happening to so many people… I blame MS.
Here’s a thread with (I’m pretty sure) the solution: Here

If not, then try this one.

You guys get warnings? Sometimes I am working on the internet with 3-4 IE windows up and a few Mozzilla windows and bang, my computer clicks and is suddenly rebooting. Does it with Just one or two Mozzilla windows by themselves, and does the same with IE by themselves. Not sure what causes it, but none of my virus scanners detects anything. Windows XP I think.

Blame the users. MS knew about this vulnerability and had a patch out for it before there was even an exploit in the wild. Now, I guess you could blame MS for the vulnerability being there in the first place, but at least they did their part and fixed it when it was discovered.

Wow, this is really snowballing…

This seems to be the thread with the most info:
