That’s what I meant, just the closest thing, especially savory ones.
A fresh scone done right is a mighty fine thing, as is a homemade biscuit. Betcha swampie has a good biscuit recipe.

Truth. Said meezer is now lounging on her bosom shelf licking my bicep. At least that is slightly less annoying than my face. I can read and type if I hold my iPad waaaaay out.
Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 19c/65f with a predicted high of 24c/75f and partly cloudy. Weather app says “Just fucking think. It could be fucking freezing outside.”
Ours don’t like thunder much either. Muffin will hide in the bookcase where she feels safe (she goes in there when we’re vacuuming too), Cherry hides under the bed and Blossom is either with her sister, or behind the sofa. Yours want to be office assistants for a while!
A refund cheque is always good news, but it would be interesting to see why they refunded so much of what Mrs Cookie sent them.
That must have been very worrying for all of you, she’s lucky to have you close enough to be able to help out! I hope Ollie understood why he was abandoned though ![]()
I’ve always got at least one troublesome minion
TM is one that I’ve had for nearly 3yrs now, she is just getting more and more troublesome. So, probably the same one!
Stottie! And now I want an Eccles cake too.

After the exam boards, yesterday was blissfully quiet. I finally met new Team Manager, she seems nice enough. The office was busy as the Chatterbox was in (her exam board was yesterday) so not much got done. I’ve got to start looking at the list of student who will resit stuff in August so we can write to all of them next week.
Went home, flopped on the sofa for a while before making dinner and flopping on the sofa a bit more before bedtime. I’m on campus again today, was up stupidly early but it was nice to be travelling before the day’s heat sets in.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 74 Amurrkin out with rain and I hear tstorm in the distance, with a predicted high of 83 and rain all day. The tornado watch is gone but the flood watch is still in effect. I need to go over to the church house to take care of candle and other duties, but may wait until tomorrow. It’s still supposed to be rainy tomorrow but less so than today. Outside of that possibility, it will be a good day to be inside and dry. Sup will be leftovers from last night’s nummy sup.
Coppertone glad you got your phone unlocked. Kinda sounds like this is a person you maybe don’t want in your life.
{{{Molly}} hope today is a better day.
{{{shoe}}} hope today is a better day for you as well.
nuts hope you get the stuff done today. Bizkits are a savory bread made with flour, buttermilk, butter and shortenin’ (or lard). I make a fairly good one, but honestly there are frozen ones that taste just as good and bake up light and fluffy.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
Happy Firday Y’all!
Up at 5:45am, need to be at Soccer park by 7:00am, have broken fast and am half-dressed, so this will be short. Rain apparently won’t trouble us, just 80F weather and clouds. Probably won’t be back until after 6pm, so take care and catch you when I can.
Do you not have whomp biscuits there? So named because you whomp the unwrapped container against the corner of a counter to pop it open so you can unroll it and extract the contents. Of course, there are those who use a spoon to open the can, but they’re not fun at all, and calling them spoon biscuits is just lame.
And they’re not at all the same as homemade, but they’re not bad.
Today started at 72 Ferrets and rainy. In fact, when my bladder woke me at 0230, it was raining, tho it’s stopped and restarted since then. At the moment, it’s coming down with some serious determination. Possible sun this afternoon, tho. And we’re promised a nice weekend for the pig roast and the air show.
And it’s laundry day, so I’ve got that going for me. I’ll probably rollsuck, too. And I have an errand or two to run. So a day of happy homemaker-ing ahead. Rah.
Happy Firday!!
Good morning Mumpers ![]()
Sitting here with a raisin English muffin and some milk. After my donation the other day (more on that later), I was told to replenish the calcium. Already put some delicates to soak; will do a load of wash later. Working on the Kroger grocery list. Will go once Hubs is up and sheveled.
I’ll have to look into that for Bella.
JtC: oh, I’m so glad to learn that your Hubs got a new stent that has given him new life! That’s so great. I bet he is really loving it and more active again. And yes, kidney stones may be the absolute worst pain, at least in my case they were, much much much worse than childbirth.
Ok, Kroger list complete. I’ll go clean and refill the birdbath and water the garden while waiting for Hubs to get up.
TTYL
Unfortunately, her memory issues kinda make that unpossible. I would have to try to dissect the returns to figure it out and I don’t want to make her feel bad. The IRS, for all its issues, is actually pretty good about finding your mistakes and correcting them, whether or not they are in your favor.
Mornin’ everyone.
It’s 58F and sunny outside. The forecast calls for mostly sunny skies, with a daytime high of 84F. That’s…a bit warm.
Shoe, re: Gentleman Caller. It sounds like you’re not interested at all. Put him out of your mind, and remove or block his number. To me, anyway, it just sounds like stress you don’t need or want.
Bright Tree, it’s good you were able to help out your friend.
My favorite WHOMP biscuits are the Pillsbury Grands Flaky Layers. I can’t remember the last time I ate them, though. I like them because they just don’t seem as heavy as regular biscuits.
I went to the two big box home improvement stores yesterday, ostensibly to purchase some mulch, but I did some looking around, too. I bought three pots of Bidens yesterday (they smell kind of sweet), some tall plant stakes, a fridge water filter, and finally, an Ego chainsaw. I’ve been wanting to purchase one of those for a while now. I did not purchase mulch; it all looked kind of crappy, and I’ve decided I’ll just have three to five yards of dark fine mulch delivered.
My husband wasn’t pleased with the chainsaw purchase because he thinks it means work for him. It’s not like he does much around the yard anyway, so I told him I bought it for me. He still insists he’s going to run it, but if I don’t see it being used in the next few days, I’ll be doing it. I’ve used chainsaws before, and I’m not some kind of wimp.
Once I got home, I ate lunch, then headed out to the backyard to water and transplant. I think I was out there for a couple of hours, but unfortunately, the asshat neighbors decided it was time to share how loud the bass is in their system. It was really annoying, so I gave up and came indoors.
Today will be spent either rollsucking and dusting or mowing and doing some additional yardwork. I haven’t decided yet.
Please take care of yourselves.
Errands run, including scoring some chicken wings on sale. The wings are packed and in the freezer - they make for a quick, easy meal for FCD. And when he has them, I have a tuna steak, which isn’t one of his favorites. Win win!!
He’s not feeling well, so he’s trying to sleep. I won’t do laundry or rollsuck till he’s up, lest I disturb him. So, twist my arm, I’ll play some games on my tablet, since it’s way too wet to do any yard work… ![]()
Good morning. It’s Juneteenth, so the banks are closed. That means Mrs Magill has an actual day off. I turned off the walking alarm and set a separate alarm for myself, but then I neglected to actually turn it on. I awoke to the sound of Spike coming home from his shift. It was too late to walk, so I jumped into the shower and got ready for the day.
After I was clean, I let Chloé of her crate. She ran right for the bedroom door. “Primary Human is in there! Let me in there!” she was saying. I suggested going outside to go potty. “Oh! Good call, Emergency Backup Human. I really need to do that.” she replied. We went outside, she did her thing, and we went back in. “Er me gerd!!! She’s still behind a door! Curse my small size and lack of opposable thumbs! Emergency Backup Human, I demand you open this door at once, so I may bask in Primary Human’s glory!” Chloé and Mrs Magill were reunited and the dejected Emergency Backup Human sad walked back into the kitchen to pour her coffee prepare her breakfast.
I unapologetically apologize for last night’s self pity-party. I expect more of these “three steps forward - two steps back” moments are in my future, and I will treat each one as the end of the world.
Shoe - thank you for trying to talk me down, but it was the “I’ll never get used to you like this,” comment than anything else. I know she meant it as saying that she’s known me for nearly thirty years as one way, and now suddenly I may be another way, and I get that. It’s just a sign that this new girl needs to slow down and let her wife catch up.
Regarding clothes - it does not help one bit that my body has zero curves, so finding affirming clothes that fit and are not tights and leggings, so they can be worn in boy mode or outside the yoga studio, is super difficult. The quest continues.
BBBoo and Nuts - scones and American biscuits are rather different animals. Biscuits have a rather high fat content, either butter or lard - sometimes both, that is gently folded in, resulting in a lighter, flakier texture than scones. It’s like the difference between croissants and brioche bread. For the best biscuit experience, go to either Bojangles or Biscuitville - no one else come close.
At least it’s not that scene in “Dogma.”
Weather app says “Just fucking think. It could be fucking freezing outside.”
See? Scottish. Be careful, BooFae, your weather app may escape, drink Boston dry, then clean up after itself (except for the traffic cones).

I much prefer the frozen ones. I wish I could actually make them, but I tend to over mix, so the texture always comes out wrong. Yanno - I still have some gravy mix left over. I should surprise Spike tomorrow evening with biscuits and gravy when he gets up. He’ll definitely have a full stomach when he goes to work.

Well, he certainly is gaga over her and I’m glad that he is finally happy after being married to that other nitwit.

am questioning whether I can do this
Yes!
and whether I should have just kept it all in my head.
No!
From what I’ve heard, having not tried Murrican type biscuits, they’re not really the same, just the closest thing. … We also can’t agree on how to actually say the word.
There are two types of them here – rolled biscuits and drop biscuits. Scones are closer to the latter; the whomp biscuits mentioned by FCM and Taters are rolled biscuits. And when I was in Scotland, most people seemed to rhyme it with spoon.
I then cannot see to read da Dope
Research has shown that cats are a major cause of illiteracy.
Forgot to mention – we went to the commissary the other day. On the way out, about 90-100 yards inside the main gate, there was a doe casually walking along on the sidewalk, ignoring all the cars going past her.
Currently 70 out of 81 ferrets, with lots of cloud cover. Didn’t get any thorms yesterday; in fact, I didn’t notice any rain at all.
Did make it to the library yesterday, though – returned five of the books I had here and picked up six that they had on hold for me (five books on palaeontology and a memoir written by a WWII navy nurse).
Was awakened at 0700 by an incoming text from some woman doing a survey. I deleted it,but figured there was no point in going back to sleep before feeding the cats. Picked up the laptop in the meantime, but am now considering a nap… .
On the trip to the allergy shot/ice cream, I was amazed again by how many trees were uprooted and/or broken and are still lying there. It must be a busy time for those who work with chain saws.
Rocker, that cat/train vid was amazing! Mrs. Nott said, “Somebody has too much time on their hands.”

Nelson is quite the lap puppy when the thunderboomers are out and about.
Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. RDOS slated all day.
Stay safe and healthy y’all!
So the current nitwit is an improvement over the other nitwit?
Ha! She’s actually very well-educated and has an engineering patent with the company she works for.
Chloé may have achieved The Dream. We just found her munching on a dead bird. We’re not sure whether she found it or caught it.
And when I was in Scotland, most people seemed to rhyme it with spoon.
That’s the place that is spelled exactly the same, the food item either rhymes with ‘gone’ or ‘cone’. And once you’ve got past how to say it, you need to figure out the toppings- should you put jam then cream or cream then jam. Honestly, they’re a minefield, without being conflated with cookies.
Very glad it’s Friday today.
Did the boring stuff in the lab, hopefully without messing up this time, so I went home a little early- annoyingly, I forgot my phone, which actually majorly impacts my ability to use half the stuff on my computer, as I need it for all the security checks.
I was s’posed to be going to the pub after irk with a former officemate, but she cancelled because she’s honestly just got more to do than it’s possible to do and she won’t be done with today’s jobs until late. I would have had to drive home then get the bus back in, and it’s very wet right now, so I’ll cope about it not happening. We may be rescheduling for sometime at the weekend, not sure. It was going to be a grump session; her job isn’t at risk, but her husband also works there and his is…
At the Soccer park, have done one game with two more to go. The clouds have disappeared and the sun is beating down, so glad I remembered my cap. No issues and things seem to be running well, so hopefully that will continue for the next two days.
Catglove so glad to see you back and that things are continuing to improve!
Bright Tree Oh my that sounds like quite the busy day! And good thing you were around/available to help.
Van Gogh eek on the close tornado! I hope there was no damage to your house or property!
Coppertone sounds like you’re well quit of the man - you don’t need anyone that makes your life harder.
{{Mollie}} Be kind to yourself. This isn’t easy for you or Mrs Magill and you both deserve some grace (and lots of hugs). And don’t apologize for for what you post - if someone doesn’t want to read it, they can just scroll on by.

It’s been a busy couple of days here. Volunteered with my coworkers at the food bank yesterday afternoon. Let me tell you, I am not used to standing and walking on a concrete floor for 4 hours anymore, and my feet and lower back were not happy.
Working from home this morning (private sector so they don’t recognize Juneteenth as a holiday unfortunately) and then going to get my hair cut and dyed this afternoon. I may or may not run by the grocery store. I’ve got a frozen pizza if I decide to be lazy (Narrator: she will be lazy and eat frozen pizza for dinner)
Clerking back and forth. There was a hella big return to sender to do, because some comapmy ordered 30 48"x48"x48" boxes of filters, then closed for the summer, so they’ve been bouncing around for a week. It rained, and since I worked for a multi billion dollar company that can’t keep its trailers for leaking, there was a lot of reoxes after the sort.
