Glad to hear Philly isn’t alone. I hope it isn’t too crazy for the neighbours.
Up from naptime. Having a martini. Dinner tonight is chicken and egg noodles with peas and cheese sauce.
Update: power out, cooking by candlelight like a Cro-Magnon
Never been, I’ll have to check it out.
She said she was single, and the goat was alive when I left the hotel room!
Cat glove!

It’s named Arthur, so probably looking for a cup of tea.
Welcome back! Dang about the computer.
I have been thinking about him, I’m so happy it is still going well. I can remember back when his immune system wouldn’t allow him to do so much a peel a banana, your devotion and love always made my eyes water a little.
Good news on both accounts, I hope your lovely wife will be more comfortable with fewer restrictions.
I can remember when that sort of thing was new and different. Now its just Tuesday here. Being a RDOS with fully stocked cabinets sure is a good feeling when it happens, though.
Stay dry!
Oh the HECK NO!!! I love how they can turn in mid jump if needed. I do hope they leave your fish alone.
Its not just you, power is getting more expensive all over. Someone’s gotta pay for the data centers yanno.
I do agree, though Plop is a very good word that has many uses!
Back when bike runs were new, bar owners were always surprised that they would run out of beer.
The first Easy Riders Rodeo was in Lancaster CA and the entire town was out of beer half way through the three day weekend. The same thing happened a year later for the next one. The third one didn’t happen in that town because nobody likes it when a mob of bikers runs out of beer.
You are probably thinking about housing prices in your neck of the woods. This is an old, small trailer in an active flood zone. My half would cost about half the cost of a used econo-box car. Plus, I like owning land. We used to have 40 unimproved acres and sold it when we moved out here and I kinda miss the feeling.
We were planning on going to the Huntington Art Museum tomorrow, our third attempt, but the forecast is now all rain on all sites. Dang it, I owe more postcards to some Dopers and I really wanted to get it done while I could still use a pen.
I read online that Starlings don’t like sunflower seeds so ordered a bag and learned that Starlings just lurve sunflower seeds and will fight the Cardinals for them. I really don’t want to have to stop feeding the birds, but its no fun when the big birds bully the little ones.
Stitching is still hurting but I just cannot stop myself from grabbing the needle. I haven’t gotten much done because I have to stop every three or four stitches, but I’m stubborn.
Running out of steam now, my shoulder really aches and it is late.
I remember seeing a pic of one of the first two women kings with her court. I had mad respect for her, but she was bigger than me.
Long arms mean a lot in sword fighting and I didn’t have them. All I had going for me was speed and stubbornness. “It’s just a flesh wound!!!”
Have you looked at thistle seed? I know the little songbirds like it (and fennel in the fall), but I don’t know about starlings.
Oy. We got home from “Date night” (the Kroger and Costco are so romantic, and found **Spike 's ** lunch bag on the kitchen counter. The boy has a ten hour overnight shift at the Amazon warehouse forty minutes away. We put away groceries and I headed off down I-24 to deliver some lunch. I got to the warehouse and slowly drove around the parking lot clicking the spare key-fob until I heard a beep. I found his car, put his lunch on the driver’s seat, and sent him a text. Hopefully he’ll see it before lunchtime. IIRC, they have to keep their phones in their lockers. Coming home, they closed three out of four lanes on I-24, so it was a forty minute ride out and an hour ride back.
I’m old and tired.
Ms Peach is mad at me. I clipped her toenails.
He just texted me a thank you. At least my son won’t starve.
Is he working at the facility on Joe B. Jackson?
Oh noes! A fate worse than death ( or a bath).
Monkey and his extra toe beans pretty much always needs a clipping.
Okay, some of this I’ve posted earlier, but I’m having a full blown Southern “come-apart” right now, so here’s the whole rundown on the Shoe “holy banana Batman!” currently:
My I.T. ex (whom I’ve kept in touch with, because reasons) his fantastic life after I broke up with him - I dumped his ass and moved across the country - with his lovely marriage, a gorgeous lil’ bebeh, and a 6-figure job, is falling apart.
Do I have a lil’ soft spot for him? Yup. Still do. After everything we put each other through, yes.
I know he also has a lil’ soft spot for me.
But we were incompatible for so many silly stoopit reasons.
Not sure where that’s gonna go.
Y’all remember Gentleman Caller who was supposed to be a 1-night stand offa Tinder and turned into a two-year, uh, thing?
Kicked him to the curb after he accused me of cheating on him, because I had to work late …
… wanna guess who popped into my phone today? And I, legit and with all honesty, “I hafta work late tonight and tomorrow.”
(Nice alibi!)
Not sure where we’re gonna go after that …
So, my mother. She texted me today that she officially scheduled the knee surgery, and she’s - and I quote - “scared as hell.”
This woman terrified me growing up. Maybe a bit abusive. She’s a tough cookie.
She also doesn’t use naughty language much.
I had a HOLY SHIT moment at work tonight - S.M. saw my face and was
and I told her … I guess imma have to go be with my parents.
My dad cannot handle all of this, and that’s a big part of what’s freaking my mom out.
S.M. and I talked through some work logistics, and imma try to get through to my mom - if she’ll pay for the flight there & back, I’ll do the needful to help care for her for a few days of recovery.
(Not that I want to. Even S.M. was like, “Stock up on edibles.” Gawds I lurve that woman. Also, her mom had knee surgery a coupla years ago so she already talked me through some of the stuff that will need to be assisted.)
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. It’s 75 degrees Ferret Height(23.889 Centipedes). Power came back at 0130. Gonna be one of those summers.
“The attempt on my life has left me scared and disfigured.” - Ms. Peach

You’ve had a day.
Not bad for an old lady. ![]()
Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 17c/63f with a predicted high of 24c/74f and cloudy. Weather app says “Best fucking day ever! Oh wait. I was remembering another fucking day. Forget I fucking said anything.”
Yesterday turned out to be a very good day. All the exam boards went well, everyone said nice things about my administrators, and there were no questions at all about anything. Those are my favourite kinds of exam boards, just goes to show how good my paperwork is
I even got all the minutes finished and signed off. Just waiting for one person to return a document they needed to sign, and I will be able to get everything ready to send in to our Registry team.
I was worn out after all that excitement, didn’t do anything apart from decamp to the sofa and have some snuggles with Blossom while 'im indoors provided dinner. Back on campus today so it was an early morning and a slightly delayed commute as the bus was late so I ended up on later trains than usual. Should be a nice quiet day now that all the excitement’s over and Troublesome Minion is on leave for the next three days!
Welcome back, cat glove, good to see you found your way back to us!
Hi CatGlove!
Have you tried one of the hanging feeders with a cage around? They can work. In my experience the bigger birds can normally still get at the seed, but it’s a lot more effort so they don’t tend to unless they’re really hungry.
Hang on, I’ll see what Miss Manners has to say about it. Maybe get a selection of drinks and the good biscuits (cookies to you) out, you don’t want to upset a storm.
Having a bad case of the dontwannas this morning. I have stuff I really really need to get done, so I can’t skive… I want to though.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 78 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 87 with rain/tstorms/apocalypse predicted later this afternoon. The *FLOOD WATCH also remains in effect. A good day to stay and inside and dry methinks. I took some chikin boobs and a small pan of cornbread dressin’ outta da freezer last night. I envision roastin’ the boobs (will brown ‘em a bit first) so I can have drippin’s to make a gravy for the dressin’. I feel adventurous today. I am also goin’ to do a chawklit cake with chawklit/pee-kahn icin’ just cause. A squish casserole, roasted baby carrots, and baby lima beans will be the vegetation. Apparently I am channelin’ a combo of southern grannies/church ladies! Not to worry though, as I will build in some RDOS sloth time as I do need to keep up my RDOS cred.
Lily good news about Shiso and hopefully there will be good news about your lovely wife at her post-op appointment.
Cat_Glove glad hubs is almost at the end of his journey. He’s been through a lot! Yay that he is back to his goal of golfin’! I have been singin’ Rainy Night In Jawja in my haid all week.
doggio hope the power is back on soonest. Arthur may want some fish 'n chips to go with his tea. You may or may not remember Arthur Treacher’s Fish and Chips.
JtC that trailer sounds like it could be just the thing Harry and you need for your hobbies. Hope it works out.
Mollie hope Spike got your text and his lunch. Ten hours is a long time to go hongry. I see now he didn’t starve.
VanGo extra treats may get you back in Ms. Peach’s good graces.
{{{shoe}}} this sounds like everything all at once. You are a good daughter to want to go help out.
BooFae glad all the exam boards went well. Good for you! Also yay for a TM free office day!
Nuts screw the storm. If Ima get the good cookies and drinks, we shall keep them for ourselves. We’re greedy like that.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day, or storm, or flood, or whatever! Rah.
Happy Thursday Y’all!
I hope the flood watch remains just a warning. Stay safe!
Howdy, folks! It’s Thursday June 18th. The Weather Channel says 64F, rising to 69F later. It’s cloudy, and throughout the day we’ll choose among partly, barely, mostly, and sorta.
Today, we’ll go to Mishawaka for my every-2-weeks allergy shot and my every-2-weeks trip to Coldstone Creamery for ice cream.
Now it’s breakfast time. Be kind.
Would it make sense to leave some granola bars or cheese-n-crackers or some such in the car so if he forgets again, at least you’re spared the drive?
Otis needs a pedicure. He got my right arm yesterday and I’m sporting 4 bandaids. (In addition to the 2 on my left arm from a few days ago.) My skiin has gotten so delicate (really!!) as I’ve aged and it doesn’t take much to tear it. That big ol’ doofus just wants skritches, but it I’m not quick enough, he reminds me with a “smack” on the arm. I need some forearm armor.
I was wondering about him the other day, oddly enough.
Hope you can work out things with your maternal unit - do you have a suitcase big enough for edibles??
Our day is starting with 72 Ferrets, heading to the mid-90s with possibly some t-storming later. FCD wants to take the boat out for an hour or so to run it thru its paces. He claims he could do it himself, but I won’t let him. Oh, he can handle the boat just fine, tho getting out of the slip and into the creek does benefit from a second set of eyes. The real challenge for him is getting from the flybridge down to the dock to tie up. His legs ain’t what they used to be and he has fallen recently. So, assuming the rain holds off, we’ll head out in a bit. He’s still abed and I do my best to let him sleep as much as he can (which isn’t much these days.)
ETA - he’s up and boating is off because of the weather. So maybe I can get some more yard work done.
I was even nice (dammit) and tended to Otis this morning. His breakfast is awaiting him, but he’s on the porch surveying his domain.
And so it begins. Happy Thursday.
Good morning! it’s a balmy 9 degree Celsius outside this morning in Buenos Aires, I walked 20 blocks or so to the train station (there’s a bus but I like walking and also need the exercise) only to find out that no trains are running today due an electric issue.
So no going to the office today to unnecessarily work in the office, I’ll work from home as I do Mon, Tue and Fri and as I should do every day.

Followed Doggio’s link. That company is charging 399 pound, which at the current exchange rate is US$527. Good exchange rate, too – US$1.32; when I was there, 36 years ago, it was US$1.80-2.10.
Cat Glove – welcome back!! I was wondering about you just a few days ago. Maus McGill’s name (Mollie) is the only new MMP name I can think of, though there may well be others. Was going to link to the MMP FAQ, but I see Metal Mouse beat me to it.
I’d try “Sweet Jawja Bown”, but a) that’s a basketball song, and b) you really don’t want to hear me sing.
I love how they can turn in mid jump if needed.
Chihiro used to do the most amazing jumps when she was a kitten.
Plop is a very good word that has many uses!
Goes well with Fizz..
{{{shoe}}} … You are a good daughter to want to go help out.
Or to be willing to go even if you don’t want to.
I hope the flood watch remains just a warning.
“Flood watch” =/= “Flood warning”!
65 out of 77 ferrets (18 out of 25 centipedes) at 0800, with a 50% chance of rain/thorms this afternoon. Need to go for a blood draw and to swap out library books this afternoon, but no other plans for the day.
Good morning.
It’s 52F and sunny outside. The day will remain mostly sunny, with a daytime high of 78F.
Shoe, sending you hugs.
Swampy, hold the flood watch, is just that, and nothing more.
**Cat Glove!**It’s so good to see you post again. I have been wondering about you and your husband, and I’m glad to see he is nearing the end of the medical journey.
Doggio, I hope the power is restored ASAP.
BooFae, I’m happy to see the boards went well, and extra yays for a TM-free day!
JtC, if the starling visits became too frequent, I would remove the feeders for a few days and that usually did the trick.
Other than tidying the kitchen, I was the slothiest of sloths yesterday. I will have to rectify that today.
I need to run to the store for some eggs. I went to use the eggs I purchased over the weekend and saw they were past the use-by date by nearly 10 days. I was PO’d at myself for not checking the expiration date when I purchased them. I usually do that. I was even more PO’d because I’d sprung the “good” extra-large eggs. You don’t often see extra-large eggs in the grocery stores around here anymore, AND the so-called large eggs look more like “medium” eggs from 20 years ago.
And, since I’ll already be out, I might just stop at Lowe’s or Home Depot for some dark mulch.
Bright Tree, I knew that series sounded familiar. It turns out, I had started watching that, but must have seen something shinier. Anyway, I started the series over and binge-watched it yesterday. It was good, and I enjoyed the follow-up for what happened after.
I need to finish my coffee (three-cup day), and get going. Please take care of yourselves.
Good morning. 77ºF and overcast this morning, so no sunrise pics. Spike passed us while we were walking. He stopped briefly to thank us for bringing his lunch. Chloé was all sorts of excited that Second Favorite Human was right there. Why wont we let her jump in the car? He’s RIGHT THERE!!! It also turns out that he’s allowed to have his phone on his person and have one (not two) earbud in, but he’s not allowed to look at his phone while working, which makes total sense - he’s in a warehouse, and that’s how you get run over by a forklift.
We’d bought some Legally Distinct Hazelnut/Chocolate Spread[1] filled beignets at the Costco last night. I had one at breakfast. It was tasty. Squeaky looked at the box last night and aske what “by-gan-etts” were. I corrected his pronunciation. He looked at the label again, sneered, and said, “Oh, must be French.” Then he snagged one.
Is he working at the facility on Joe B. Jackson?
Yes. It looks like that where they’re putting the new Buck-ee’s.
Not bad for an old lady.
I’m a young lady, but often feel like an old man. It’s like how Edward Hyde was younger than Henry Jekyll. Mollie, however, is mush less deviant and very unlikely to jump on people.
Nuts screw the storm. If Ima get the good cookies and drinks, we shall keep them for ourselves. We’re greedy like that.
So much for Southern Hospitality. Whenever a tropical storm comes to visit, I try to make sure at least one of my kids is on a camping trip, so it can be greeted properly.

I need to finish my coffee (three-cup day), and get going. Please take care of yourselves.
I just finished cup number two - time for cup number three. One day, I’ll try for a on hundred cup day, and see if I can stop time like Fry in Futurama.
Other hazelnut/Chocolate spreads are available ↩︎
