My Cup Runneth Over- A Championship MMP

Good morning everyone. I woke up to thunder an hour ago and it is still coming down. Now I’m starting to stress over the board post-card exchange, I still owe three people two more cards each which is the main reason I wanted to go to the art museum this week.

Mollie, I promise I haven’t forgotten you, the other cards are going to come in a few months though, I am sorry.

We’ve gotten about half an inch of rain so far today and I just saw Harry and grand-daughter-in-law (wearing waders) poking around the back of the trailer. He said he wanted to look at the footers when the ground was wet, now is a good time

Tators I haven’t tried a cage feeder yet because that would mean running off the jays and woodpeckers. I did find an upside down suet feeder for them so if it works, a cage feeder will be next.

I was looking at the flock last night and it is mostly Cowbirds with only a few Starlings but the Cowbirds are bullies too. Or maybe they aren’t, maybe I dislike them because I’m making moral judgements where I shouldn’t. They wouldn’t be in the forest if people hadn’t made roads and cleared land for their expansion, they are only doing what nature intended.

George doesn’t like thunder and is sticking really close, Jolene doesn’t care much but she likes to be in the same room as George so they are both helping me go through my email this morning. There are four more corrections for the mystery class, but I haven’t gotten that far so no frogging will be needed.

I think a few nice hits of my vape, another cup of coffee and then my morning will be filled with trying to catch up to the class for no other reason than I want to.

Shoe, remember that New Mexico is about a six hour drive from DFW area and they have lots of very well stocked dispensaries very close to the border. Good luck to both of you!

That’s what the interwebz say to do as well. But that would mean taking away the fuzzbutts main source of entertainment and make me feel like a meanie. I did just read that Starlings don’t like safflower seeds and I know that everything else does.

Your eggs should be good, just be sure to float them before use. If you get a floater, crack it in a separate bowl or just give it to your pups. Dogs like raw eggs, right? And they are good for them?

I’m good. I’ve got a cute bobcat giving me an affirmation. What more could I ask for?

Morning all. Slept in until near 7:30am today so should be refreshed. Will be involved with the youth Soccer Tournament from about 2-6pm this afternoon so that will keep my afternoon occupied. Otherwise should be a quiet day, about a 50% chance of rain in the area so might get a bit damp, but otherwise ‘only’ getting to 80F.

Talkative bunch this morning, need to get scrollin’, scrollin’, scrollin’ on the river…

Catglove, great news about Hubs and his recovery progress.

doggio, hope the power comes back (and I see that it did). Ever lose power at the Big Brown Building?

JtC, I was thinking about housing prices, but sounds like a pretty good deal. Hope the rains hold off and you can make it to the museum.

Mollie, a good deed done is worth the weariness.

VanGo, I’ve mentioned before I watch a You Tube channel called “Girl with the Dogs” by a pet groomer and nail clipping seem to bother dogs (and cats) more than getting bathed.

{{{shoe}}}, because you can use them. As for the men in (were in) your life, you know better what you’re letting yourself in for and if you can deal with it, good or bad. I wish you the best. And hope your Mom, whatever her faults, gets the knee worked on and you survive the family reunion.

boo fae, glad the boards went well, and hopefully a quiet day at the office.

swampy, trust that you will stay unflooded.

Knots, I would trade a shot for some ice cream every day–two things that are good for me in wildly different ways…

FCM, know what you mean about the skin, I get spots on my hands/arms that seem to take forever to go away and then I bump them again and bingo! they’re back. Hope the boat run doesn’t turn into a 3-hour tour…

Fingers, most of my walking is in the gym these days, but a nice stroll in the morning is something I have been considering.

I understood that reference…such a relief it is that my brain remembers stuff like that…

Taters, thanks for the store reminder, need to get my Firday shopping list put together. Don’t care for eggs much so not looking at them, but I do check the use-by dates on most items I buy these days, especially the Pepsi 12-packs.

And onward into Thorsday (it is Thorsday, isn’t it–haven’t checked my Thorsday-only webcomic yet). Take care all.

There are bits that you can buy for your Dremel to grind his nails so that there are no sharp edges if he would hold still for it. For Nelson, it’s a two person job. Since I’ve been in Texas, Sis and I have tag teamed her dogs and him.

(((shoe)))

A former BF’s son worked out there one summer. Since he didn’t drive, I was on transportation duty taking him to work in the afternoon (I was off work earlier than his dad). Jake was amazed that they had urine color charts in the restroom. Basically, they were to alert folks working in a hot warehouse that they may need to drink more water.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. I need to make a quick run to Aldi for dog kibble today, but the rest is RDOS.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Taking a break after an hour anna half of sweaty yard work. I was digging up plants, pulling weeds, raking leaves, dumping debris in the woods, removing 2 more boards of the raised bed, and trying to figure out how I’m going to move the native clematis - it seems to have a monster root ball. I’ve got the sprinkler going in the hope that some moisture will make it easier to break up some of the rock-hard dirt. I’m almost to the point of leveling that part of the yard, tho I don’t know if I’ll get that far today. Heat and humidity are moving in fast.

Lunch, in half an hour or so, will be leftovers from yesterday’s Chinese lunch - seafood mei fun. Then I’ll go back out and either start moving dirt or finish digging and weeding. Plus there’s a cartload of leaves and debris to be dumped in the woods. There’s also a wagonload of old wood to be loaded into the truck and hauled to the dump. Slowly but surely, the garden is giving way to future lawn.

So maybe another hour of labor, then shower and chillage. I did get a good sleep last night, thanks to Mel, and I may do the same tonight with half a dose. For now, tho, a little surfing before warming up lunch.

Yesterday turned out a bit more exciting than anticipated. Went down to get the mail and there was an envelope from the IRS. Not usually good news. Opened it up and there was a refund check for over $9K. Huh? The wife has always done the taxes and I haven’t paid much attention to it. This year she sent a payment of some $11K, which I saw pass through the credit card register. An ouch moment, but whatever. So this check is a surprise, and I can’t figure out what happened unless she made some estimated payments and then forgot she did so. Guess I’ll have to keep a closer eye on things.

Anyway, a trip to the bank today  and then to the grocery for a few things. It’s also housekeeping day.

I did another hour of dirt work, then got cleaned up. We’re on the boat installing locker lights. Well, he’s installing, I’m assisting. Otis is snoozing.

The Blue Angels are practicing for this weekend’s air show.

Today started with 57F, on the way to 84F. I can live with that.

That was quite the story and a fun read! We all need to test our limits.

Thanks for sharing the date. I’ll very much look forward to hearing when the cutting is in your rear view mirror and you’re on the mend.

Whenever you have the chance. I could look it up, but I’d prefer to benefit from your years of experience! I use a lot of cream cheese, so I imagine I’ll save some money, too. Thank you!

Good luck with the possible property purchase! It sounds like a nice option for both you and Harry to have some extra space for your hobbies. It doesn’t take long to end up with too many canvases when you take up painting. Ask me how I know.

It was. I benefited from reading it, and I hope others did, too.

I never had a problem on coasters, either. Until I did. In fact, I might have been characterized as a Coaster Slut before: The bigger, the badder, the better! I loved them! I certainly hope this hasn’t changed for you as it did for me. It was a sad surprise, in my case. May you have many enjoyable coaster years ahead of you!

Re bagels, yes, they are pretty easy to make, just a bit time consuming. Much like making a simple bread, just adding an extra step to boil them after shaping and before baking. There are some other tricks, though, to get them as authentic as possible. Most people wouldn’t bother. I can understand that.

red, I am with you! Give me the sweet gentle horses every time. I could tell stories, but I won’t. This post is going to be long enough as it is.

I’m glad if you found something useful in it for you. You’ve got a lot going on with the parental units, as do I, so you have my utter empathy with the situation. You’re a good daughter.

I’m trying to envision how a pill bug goes “full Tony Hawk”. That would have been something to see! Hope you’ve got your power back, too. Of the electric variety, not super powers.

Of course, and I should have remembered that! :woman_facepalming: The situation is still understandably unsettling for you. I wish you good luck with the thesis!

Nice to see you back and posting, cat glove! Really fantastic news about your husband’s progress, too! Sounds like you both worked hard for such a positive outcome.

Better than a flood warning, but still! Stay safe and dry, please, swampy!

Hope the post op goes as you want for your lovely wife! And good news about Shiso, too.

At least you can. Ollie is the first critter of mine who has defeated my efforts to do home trimming. Thankfully, his regular kennel is nearby and they do nail trimmings. I hope Ms. Peach de-snits soon!

BooFae, glad you had such a great day yesterday! You’ve earned it! Enjoy these TM-free days!

I’m delighted you enjoyed it, too! And yes, the follow-up was great. I was gobsmacked to learn it was based on a true story – I thought it was just a cleverly-done fictional drama. I’ll pass along suggestions if you want and if they are worthy. (None at the moment.)

Congrats on the unexpected windfall, cookie! No matter how they happen, they are always welcome, aren’t they?

Ok, so I got behind for not posting yesterday, that’s obvious! But there were reasons. My day got entirely confuzzled. At around 7:30 a.m., the phone rang. It was my dearest local friend, in tears because she had just bundled her husband into an ambulance and she now needed a ride to the hospital herself. She can’t drive at the moment due to her own ongoing medical issues. So I quick took care of Ollie’s needs, coaxed him into his crate and off I went to play chauffeur for the day. The hospital is about an hour and a half away, plus the time it takes to get from my house to hers. We made two round trips plus ran a few errands in between. At least I got home midday to give Ollie some freedom and food.

Long story short, her husband has a kidney stone that he needs to pass on his own. We’re all glad it is nothing more serious, but so long as my pal can’t drive, I’m keeping close to home in case they need something that can’t be delivered or he needs to go back to the hospital. I’ll bug her about Ollie photos tomorrow if her husband continues to improve and they don’t suffer any new challenges.

Today is blissfully quiet and cool. Ollie had a good romp after breakfast to make up for excessive crating yesterday, so he’s tuckered out and snoozing. I made excellent coffee and threw the house open to take advantage of the chill in the air. Nothing is planned for today, but I may change out the water in the spa.

My tactic to discourage the crazy bird by moving my car to a different spot seems to have worked. I’ll leave it this way for a few days, then see if the spell has been broken when I park back in my usual spot. No bun sightings recently. Only turkeys and deer.

That’s plenty for now. Have fabulous days, all! I’m ready for a bagel.

feline overlord, garden, and train. what can go wrong?

Katze vs. Gartenbahn VIII

Evenin’. It’s a soggy if warmish day today. The garden snails are loving it.

Frustrating day at irk; got nothing much done and managed to screw up something I did yesterday so it needed redoing… Left about normal time, but the traffic on the way home was about the worst I’ve ever seen it- not sure if there was an accident or something, because the queues were crazy at every junction.

I let the local chip shop make dinner, because it wasn’t like I was gonna do anything healthy after today.

Doing the slide flipping again, with a trip up to the 300 Sort Table. A decent bunch of rewraps from Hazmat to deal with. After that, I did my Senior Day shopping. No isopod half piping or flashing from the PoPo to report. It was 92 degrees when I got off, but with the breeze from Arthur, I’m sure the wind chill was 91.

when its a spicy meatball!

So mosh pits are out?

Yep, everybody stands around in the dark till things get fixed. There’s a generator trailer somewhere in the yard, but I guess they can’t be bothered to keep it next to the building.

I mean, I can turn a fifth of tequila into mayhem and epic bad decisions. How’s that for a superpower?

Very Snidely Whiplash of that tux to do that.

`

The Peace Park West is separated from the residential neighborhood by railroad tracks. There are 2 large parking decks on either side. So, I think the crazyness is localized into that area. Oh and across the street are bars and restaurants and a bricked walking area.

I LOVE hugs and tackle hugs are even better. Do we possibly have a dogpile going?
I truly missed you guys. And now I’m really feeling the community love. The MMP community is so gosh darn special!!!

Thanks JtC. I’ve been thinking/wondering about you and your Hubs as well. So glad that you’re both on the air side of the grass. Although sorry to hear you’re having surgery. Does it relate to that fall you took early last year when your arm was injured?

I’m currently watchin the Obama Presidential Center Grand Opening Ceremony. Fantastic job with all the musical artists, particularly liked Eddie Veder having a lot of teenage musicians on stage with him. Michelle’s speech was just freaking AWESOME! Love her.

Our daughter bought a bird feeder with a camera for Hubs for his birthday. He loves it. He sends the videos to all of us. A lot of cool birds to see visit.

You’re a great parent! A. to drive all that way with his lunch. B. to have taught him good manners.

when I used to teach water exercise, I had a number of ladies that had knee replacement surgery, oh also my MIL who had both knees done. Anyway, those who came back to water exercise, rehabbed much better and sooner than those who didn’t. Have your Dad buy your Mom a bouyancy belt and get her in the pool. Even just water walking, especially in water a little deeper than she can stand is helpful.

Thanks BooFae and Nut. Very nice to be welcomed back by our UK contingent.

Kudos BooFae on excellent work to ensure the exam boards went well. I seem to recall that you had another minion that caused you to tear your hair out at times. Is TM the same minion or did you get another troublesome one?

This is one of my peeves about the Great British Baking Show. When they say it’s biscuit week, I expect to see biscuits like the ones I was first taught to make in 7th grade Home Ec. And instead they’re making cookies. I love me some cookies and just am occasionally confused by the Brits calling them biscuits. What the heck do you call real biscuits?

And now BRUCE is up (after Barak).

I do but then I’m OTD.

Oh my gosh, one of my very top musical artists is walking on stage. Stevie Wonder! You know how Steven Colbert would do the Steven Colbert challenge and one of the questions was if you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, not continuously, but only that one, what would it be. Mine would be: Stevie’s “You are the Sunshine of My Life”. Now I’m belting out Signed, Sealed, Delivered, I’m Yours!

Thank You Herald and taters!
I have thought about you a lot, taters. I hope that your transition to being a RDOS went as well as could be expected due to the reason for it. Blank muskrat. (fill in the blank with word of your choice)

All right, who isn’t up and dancing for “People/Higher Ground”? I’m getting my exercise now. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

ok, will finish reading later.

A. Ten hours is a long shift and there’s no cafeteria. He’d have to eat a vending machine lunch, and we can’t have that. B. If only his brothers would learn that word too.

ISTR he made them on one episode of “Good Eats”. Looked like more hassle than I’d want to deal with.

We now got both Ollie and Otis DOGGIES and my poor lil’ lady brain got all confuzzled!

Haven’t been in touch with any of the 3 people (mom, IT ex, and Gentleman Caller) from my post before, so brain frets are continuing to fret.

ETA: Gentleman Caller needs to slow his roll. He hasn’t made amends for his last nonsensery, now he’s wanting to come over.

ETA 2: I’m working closing shifts for the next several days  y’all are my alibi.

We generally have no idea what you’re talking about. They just ain’t a thing over here. What do you guys call an Eccles cake?

Do they do a bread roll week? That would be entertaining for the regional name variations… Bun, barm, barmcake, cob, bap, batch… Probably missed a few as well.

I’ll have to ask Spike about that. The boy does not drink enough.

BrightTree I just looked up ATK’s bagel recipe. Bagels look like a project. I like projects, but I can also just go up the street and get a really good bagel for a lot less hassle.

Geez - I’ve not been in a mosh pit in thirty years.

Two of my three remaining kids have decided to come visit over the Fathers’ Day weekend, which is nice of them. I’ve been feeling a bit sorry for myself of late. I’m guessing the youngest would rather spend the day with his girlfriend’s father. ::shakes fist::

Our daughter’s friend found a baby Maine Coon a year ago that had fallen out of a tree; tried finding an owner and couldn’t locate one so she kept it. He’s called Sir Hamilton, Hammy for short. Anyway, they got one of those bird feeders that suction cups to a window. They did so on the picture window in the living room and Hammy and even Bella (9 yo pup) are entertained. I don’t know about raw, but Bella loves scrambled eggs!

I have a friend who has chickens. She’s coming to do my hair on Saturday and is going to bring 2 dozen eggs. I’m going to take one dozen of them to the food pantry on Monday.

There’s the metal_mouse that we all know and love.

Thanks BrightTree. yes, it was a looong freaking road 4-1/2 years; 2024 is a year I’d like to forget. but thank goodness for the MMP community, they were very sympathetic and helped raise my spirits.

Had a joyful phone call from my bestie. Her husband passed in late February and it’s been very stressful dealing with everything that must be dealt with. One of those things is a house that belonged to her husband’s mother that was deeded to the two of them but since he rented it out and collected rent for a number of years, he intended to give the proceeds to his twin brothers when it was sold. He put it up for sale last August but it didn’t sell. With his health failing he took it off the market in January. So bestie put it back up for sale in April. In order to get it ready she bought a new dishwasher, had plumbing repairs done and something else that I don’t recall, and paid for them herself. Oh I remember, part of the panel fence fell down and she had to have that replaced. Meanwhile, the twin BILs, who live out east, Maryland I think, are no help at all and just take advantage of her. When she went to California for 11 days, her husband’s son didn’t get over in time to mow the lawn and she received a bill for ordinance violation; also another bill for ordinance violation since a neighbor had called after part of the panel fence fell down and she didn’t know about it. So, she had to pay over $300 for those bills. Anyway, we went out to lunch on Tuesday and while I knew a little about this, I didn’t know all these details. So, I said, “why don’t you just Quit Claim it to the BILs and let them deal with it. they can sign a new contract with a realtor to sell it and in the meantime engage their nephew to do any maintenance needed.” She hadn’t thought of doing this. She thought the idea might have merit. Today she called her attorney and the attorney said that he would call the twin BILs and tell them that they could either agree to the QC deed and taking over everything related to the house or if not, then bestie would continue to be responsible for it and would keep all proceeds of house sale. She is so happy and relieved and now feels free of this stress. She told me thank you numerous times.

If it’s just for a booty call, perhaps he needs a timeout first.

If I wanted one of those, I’d ask Hubs to pick up a pastry from the bakery. They’re similar to a turnover but turnovers are generally triangular.

Yes, they do and it’s interesting to see all the variations from the different parts of the UK, different locations in England, Wales and Scotland.

or perhaps he would rather keep in the good graces of his girlfriend.

My daughter and I had lunch with two of my cousins last week and one of them explained how she makes Chicken Pineapple Salad. It sounded pretty good so I’m going to log off now and get started on that for dinner. Have a relaxing evening!

Well, he certainly is gaga over her and I’m glad that he is finally happy after being married to that other nitwit.
