Missed the edit window, he does sleep in the bed during the day when it is downstairs. My wife calls it the magic bed because as soon as he gets in it, he’s out. That’s why we started putting it in the bedroom, we thought he’d like it there, he does, but just for looking at.
He also has all the routes memorized to the various parks and if I miss a turn, he barks. Too damn smart.
That’s great! Should be a happy time for both of them! And a week in dog time is practically like the whole summer for his two-legged kin!
Question not the reason why, if it makes your furry friend happy, just do it!
Mine was, too. When I got a new car, but still had the old one, and tried to take him for a ride, he looked into the new car, then rather audaciously took the leash in his mouth and walked me over to the old one, and sat down, clearly waiting for me to open the door. “This is the car I want a ride in, not whatever that other thing is!”
The Crew wanted out at 7am today, but Dixie wouldn’t budge. Wouldn’t even lift her head up.
Well, she’s old and I give her a pass. The other two bolted. I went back to bed… and exactly a half hour Dixie is barking to go out… Goddammit.
I got back there, and she is still head down in her box, just giving me Stink-Eye. I try to pull her out. No go. Wait a minute! She’s only about a pound and a half! No way can she put up this kind of resistance. I drag her further by the collar…
The foam rubber bed comes out with her. Her collar got hung up in the material covering the foam. Tied her head right down! Popped her collar off and she bolted and danced around and spun in circles…
Let her out. Thought she was gone senile. Nope. Just hung.
Took me 10 minutes to restring her collar with tags and a good ring.
Our olde dog Loki wakes me around 3 am every night to go out and pee. Because there are usually deer/rabbits/skunks out at that hour I take her out on a leash. I actually have come to enjoy it, as I easily fall back to sleep after.
One night it was drizzling and she refused to go outside. Fine. Back to bed. She woke me 20 minutes later. The rain had stopped.
