My first emergency repair in the new house; a handy MMP

g’mornin all
today I am up and soon to be dressed and out of the house
I am taking the car for oil change and tune up, then to work for a few, then to see Pirates of the Caribbean - ‘talk’ to you later

Spats, have I told you recently that I love you? No, I’m not trying to come between you and rigs :D, but I’ve been meaning to go back and look for that OWL site to send to Far-away Best Friend. She teaches English and periodically has questions that are either beyond me or happen at a time when she can’t just up and call. I had it bookmarked at one point and then lost bookmarks one day. It’s one of the ones I hadn’t had need for and I couldn’t remember exactly where it was, only that it had something to do with Purdue.

Sorry about the dog, Ellen. Made me think of the dog we had at my grandma’s when I was little. (We lived there for a year when I was 10ish).

Glad about the earring, rosie.

I’m off to garden at church and then back here to get stuff done inside and then my own garden, if it ever gets cool enough.

Happy Saturday everyone!

I’ve been up a while, but I just turned this machine on. I tended to my critters, did my exercises (owie!! :frowning: ), showered, and dressed. We’re getting ready to head out for breakfast and a possible adventure. Or just a fun day together - time will tell.

So sorry about your doggy, Ellen - they do work their way into our hearts, don’t they??

Yay for found earrings! Usually the only thing I find in my bra is my husband’s hand…

As soon as FCD scoops the cat box, we’ll be on our way. Soldier on without me today, folks. I’ll check in tonight. And someone go grab jeffrice by the ear and drag him and his chocolate love offerings in here!

No more smilies. I’m outta here… poof

Morning, all! FCM, you killed the MMP! Well, not really.

It’s supposed to be a scorcher today - well over 90. They’re talking about close to 100 degrees. Oof!

Anyway, I’ll be back. Just wanted to drop in and say Hi.

Good morning all you lovely people.

Ellen, I’m sorry about your doggie. They do become such a large part of us.

Daughter is currently in the shower getting ready to go hang out with some friends of hers.

I will need to get in the shower because we’re…I’m just sure you’ll never guess…going out on the boat. We’re taking our neighbor and a co-worker of my husband’s. We may also be taking another neighbor.

Well, I’m being booted from the “good” computer. Dammit. I’ll try to pop in later.

Have a lovely day all.

It’s 90 right now. These are the days that working all weekend doesn’t sound so bad.

except for that they keep the a/c up so high my fingers turn purple within an hour of being in the office

Yup, a $300 purse. Burberry?

I got a purse too. It’s called the backpack/laptop bag. EVERYTHING is in that thing. I’m dead without it. $45 from Office Depot.

I sorta rescheduled the day, I’m going to get out and do a power ride now, before it gets truly scorching, come home clean up, take the Kid to get my car washed, HD for paint for the door, the Onassis Purse, then home to maybe start on the door before we head out to a graduation party.

Which means I better get outta here and start doing instead of talking. Or writing.

Ellen, does your doggie like cats? Because I have this place where all my cats have gone when they leave here. It’s a big grassy hill, with a friendly looking white farmhouse with a wrap-around porch. There’s a little stream there with fish for the cats, and they’re all there. Maybe your dog can drop in and visit. They all get along there, better than some of them did here, so I’m sure dogs are welcome too.

I have a knock-off Burberry purse and wallet. Nobody can tell the difference between it and the real one. Mr. Taters, by the way, absolutely hates this particular purse. He thinks it’s ugly. I paid about $70.00 bucks for my purse at a “Purse Party”.

I’ve had it about three years now and I’m kind of sick of it. I’ve been thinking about getting a new purse for quite some time, but I haven’t found one that I like. It has to be exactly the right size, color and have adequate strap length. I only like shoulder bags. Rest assured though, I don’t think I’ll be spending $300.00 on it. I can’t quite bring myself to do it.

I need to go get cleaned up so I can play on the boat. I’ll “read” you all later.

$300 purse has to be Coach

Hi again!

I just attempted to make besan ka halva and besan ke laddu.
Besan ka halva is a thick, creamy, sweet dessert made from chick pea flour, milk, and sugar and real butter. I attempted to make it about a year ago and it didn’t come out so good. This time it came out very yummy.

Besan ke laddu are semi-sweet balls of chick pea flour, mixed with oil and sugar, cooked on high heat, then allowed to cool and formed into balls. These didn’t come out so well. I think I might have put too much butter because the texture is too creamy and they won’t stick. The batter tastes yummy, however. Anyway it’s my first attempt at these so I am not too concerned.

Tomorrow I am going to attempt prontis with spinach mixed into the dough! Prontis are large square flatbreads, stuffed with yummy stuff. When I heard from my aunt you could do this I called her up and immediately asked for how to make it.

I’ve been cleaning my office this morning, and I stumbled across a note I received from my Grandpappy (yes, that’s what we called him, at his insistence…but Grandmother was always Grandmother) on the occasion of my 18th birthday:

Aww…I still miss him. Even though he’s been gone for over 25 years now. He always had a 9-year-old’s zest for life. And he had a money tree in the back yard. I would spend hours looking for dollar bills on that tree with no luck, and then he’d come along and pluck one right off. I think I was a teenager before I figured out what he was doing.

**meeks ** - IFC is pushing a new film Darshan: the Embrace - I thought this might be of interest to you

Is there anywhere that it’s not hot out? My friend and I cleaned up the garden and church for about an hour - it’s looking very pretty, I must say. Everything’s filling in and the daylilies are blooming. Planted some petunias that had been hanging around. I still have custody of some black-eyed susans that will eventually go in there, but the area where we want to put them is still filled with ground cover. We’ve been pulling it up, but it’s been so hot that we can’t deal with all of it all at once.

Then we went out and had brunch and then decided to go to a new daylily farm that just opened. She bought one; I just admired them. Then we went to her house and I got divisions of several of her daylilies (she has close to 200 kinds).

It’s way too hot to plant right now. Maybe tonight.

I’m thinking about what to do with my afternoon. Guess maybe I’ll read for a while then find something productive to get out of the way.

Food sounds yummy, Mika. I’m thinking I might go to Trader Joe’s after a while.

Hope everyone is staying out of the heat and having a nice day.

I have oatmeal. That is all.

I’m going to work. :frowning: Oh, the thread below this one is “What’s an MMP?”

Oh, you *really *don’t want me to fax this stuff. I mean, I would, but it would destroy both our machines.

Oh well. :goes and does it anyway:

I’m home. It’s storming like crazy, and the sun is peeking thru the clouds. We had a good day, but I’m saving it for the next MMP.

As soon as the rain subsides, I’ll take Bernie out so she can poo and pee, and I’ll get my mail. And that’s pretty much all I’ve got planned for the evening. My life is so rough… hehehe

It was a Burberry, and it was $350 w/o tax.

She’s insane, but it’s her money, and Taters, I agree, it’s ugly.

I took pictures because I want to document the day she went batshit insane.

On the plus side, we did some creative shopping for her friend John, whose graduation party we’re headed to in a few. He’s going off to the U of I. He’s going to play one of the big bass drums in the marching band. Nice kid, and a great sense of humor, so we went out for him a bit:

  • Something called a Beer Bottle Bong, which looks like it essentially functions as a beer bong. If you have to ask, don’t. You’re either too old, or don’t have kids in college.
  • An Illini keychain. The only thing his mother will approve of.
  • One of those musical bottle openers that plays the Illini song when you open a bottle.
  • A bag of mixed blue and orange M & M’s.
  • A “Congratulations on your Bar Mitzvah” card. No, really, you try and find a decent graduation card in July.

The Wife was appalled and has decided she’ll write him a check too. Wimmen.

We didn’t get any rain from that line of storms, FCM – it got grey and gloomy but it passed and now the sun is shining and it’s clear back to Ohio on my radar. Which makes our poor scaredy doggie much happier.

We had a fun afternoon of staying out from underfoot of the installers putting in our new FIOS service. And I have to say that ignoring the always-slowing effects of the hamsters, I have never gotten online so fast in my life. Apaprently the big advantage to the FIOS is that everyone has their own line to the node, so our service should never slow down. So we shall see. At least it’s running faster than greased lightning, which is a Very Good Thing.

I love daylilies; we have a couple varieties in our yard here, but I didn’t realize people went that crazy with them. Over 200 varieties? Color me amazed! Now I just need to find someone around here with a big lilac bush who will let me cut a couple sprigs now and then; I’ve spent most of the past 25 years living where lilacs won’t bloom, and oh how I have missed them. My dream garden would be lined with lilacs. Maybe someday.

My son called, who’s currently the property of the U.S. Air Force; he managed to hurt his back yesterday, so has been given all kinds of good drugs to take. I was frankly impressed that he was coherent enough to speak to me. Not that it was much of a conversation; I took pity on him and sent him back to dreamland.
