i was polishing my glasses just now and they just snapped.
they are the “flexi-metal” kind frames, so my attempts to take off the jagged metal spike pointed towards my eye so i could tape them together failed. apperently, it decided to become “Flexi” again right after it broke. i couldn’t twist it off with pliers.
so, since i can’t get the process for fixing them on the wheels until tomarrow afternoon and i probably won’t get them back till wednesday, i am totally fucked for school for the next three days.
since i currently am typing with my face three inches from the screen, i am developing a searing headache, which is also bieng brought on by the fact that my eyes are focusing independently of each other- their nervous responses have been conditioned by the glasses.
i know it is my fault for not having a spare, so those of you who would say anything pertaining to that can go shove a pineapple up your ass.
i would now like to drop the F-bomb and a few F-grenades.
FUCKITY FUCKING FUCK ON A FUCKING FUCKSAUSAGE OF FLAMING SHIT-FILLED FUCK (WITH DEEP-FUCK-FRIED FUCKING FUCKABLE FUCK ON THE SIDE)!!!
thank you. i will now go to try to write my homework with my noes actually physically touching the papr while a headache marches along in the background.
Having lost contacts on several occasions (ALWAYS the one for my left, much more nearsighted, eye) I too feel a very similar pain to yours. I wear the kind you wear for a month, and then toss, but I never lose one unless I’m on my last pair and too damn broke to go order more.
well, i just realized that i have Communication Arts II tomarrow, so i am now even more a recipient of the aformentioned anal pineapple.
i just hope i can get an extension on my report, as there is no way in hell i can type it up now.
doesn’t matter. i found a pair of old glasses. they’re warped and not very well adjusted to my face or eyes, but they’re better than nothing.
i think.
you see, without them, it made no difference whether i had my eyes open or not; i saw just as well either way. so, i just kept my eyes closed and relied on blindsight.
now with them, i can at least see a little, but they are still off just enough to give me a headache from using my eyes.
but at least i can read and i can keep my monitor at such a distance that both it and the keyboard are in the same field of view.
Yeah,I know how it feels. My glasses broke during the summer,so I didn’t have to worry about school. One of the retaining screws that hold in the lens snapped. Thankfully the guys at Price Club fixed them. They even did it for free.
that happened to me whenever i fell asleep in my glasses. i bought a neat glasses repair kit for that.
it comes with twenty standard screws for the wings, a tiny screwdriver, and a “mini” magnifying glass. worked great. too bad it didn’t come with a “mini” span-arc welder…
I’ve always been so broke that the only time I replace a pair of frames is when they are irreparably busted. So I generally never have a spare, either. Occasionally I’ve had a spare pair that were wrapped with duct tape or yarn (or some combo) which were not only shaky on my face, they were also horribly out-of-date prescription-wise.
Well, I finally could afford to replace frames voluntarily so I do, now, have a back-up pair that are in one piece. But years of previous experience let me feel your pain.
And I too am blind as a bat, with an astigmatism, and eyes different enough that without glasses I have to close one of them to see anything (which also must be 1" from my nose)
yay. it’s about a week after they were supposed to come in, but they’re here.
they were out of the type of frames I had before, so i needed to pick new ones and they had to carve new lenses. thank god it was still under warranty. i could not afford to spend $350 on glasses, even if i was half blind.
they’re all nice and chrome and shiny, and they’re “Memory Metal” too, so they should last another 2 years before the frames break.
the pads are all nice and fresh too. too fresh, in fact; they stick to my nose and try to peel it off my face. they won’t feel ‘right’ until i fall asleep in them and they have some time to marinate in skin oil and stop being so darn sticky.
well, at least i can see. yay for lenses/duty based optics!
Saep: Glad your glasses are here! Hope your head feels better now.
Now my tale of broken glasses woe, in order to demonstrate that one should always have many pairs of glasses:
I got a pair of glasses when I was 14. My family could not afford a second pair. Fast forward to 2 days before high school graduation. My old glasses snap in two. The town has one eye doctor, who is out for the week. Anyways, I don’t have any money until payday, which is a week or two down the road so I can’t go to any eye doctor. To top it off, the glasses broke right between the lenses, which makes it a severe pain to tape them back together.
I ended up with a huge wad of tape visible from hundreds of feet away in the middle of my face because if I didn’t wear glasses, I couldn’t see the band music to play clarinet for the last concert, and I’d probably have fallen off the graduation stage.
The kicker? I was one of the featured graduation speakers, and thousands of people got to see my wad of tape, which is prominently visible in all my high school graduation pictures.
