My greatest influence - an early MMP

Good one, VBob! I approve.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY FCM!!!

**

It’s very nice.

Oh, and last night I because quite positive that someone I was once very close to is going to be an upcoming contestant on Jeopardy. I saw this person in the promo for the upcoming online audition. There’s two years of therapy wasted.

Thank you! It’s one of those words I know I have to know but never remember. In Spanish they’re “teeth” and “heads”. When I was little I had this image of Garlic Man who kind of looked like the grin smiley:

I really need to learn to keep my big yap shut. Remember the cold? The one I said I thought might be retreating? Yeah, turns out it was just regrouping and preparing to send some troops south before returning in force. I am now being attacked on two fronts. NyQuil and Halls are my best friends right now, and if this cough continues to get worse I’m going to have to call in the Enola Gay/Baby Boy of expectorants: Buckley’s Paint Thinner, Nose Hair Curler and Cough Medicine Mixture. Oh yes, I will rend the capsid and spill the nucleic acid of mine enemy from here to the esophagus! We will do battle on the Plains of Pharynx! I will defeat them at Epiglottal Pass! Acute Viral Nasopharyngitis will come to know and fear the name Mindfield!

ahem

In the mean time, I have a lung to hack up.

But enough whinging from me.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY FCM!!

A big bowl of mixed Swiss and Belgian chocolates all around!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY FAIRYCHATMOM!

I’m sure QD will get her butt in her after she’s done work. I’ll email her again to make sure.
Yawn. I couldn’t sleep for a long time last night, and around when I was getting sleepy Mr. Lissar had a bad coughing attack and moved to the couch. Four hours later, the alarm went off, he came back into the bedroom, and put it on snooze four times.

I’m a little blurry around the edges today.

Happy Birthday FCM!!!

Why didn’t anyone here remind me about taking Monday’s off?

Happy Birthday, FCM!!!

Nava, I think some people in the UK call them “heads of garlic” too but most often it’s a bulb with cloves inside. I like the idea of Mr Garlic Head though, perhaps it’s going to be this year’s must-have toy!

MBG we didn’t remind you because it doesn’t do any good. You do it anyway. :stuck_out_tongue: Besides, I imagine you’ll be taking another Monday off two weeks hence.

I’ma go to Sam’s Club in just a bit. We need work stuff and I’m looking for a chance to escape for a bit. It’s all win-win.

Welcome Olive (Ollie? Reindeer?) and QD (if and when she ever posts, I hope she’s wearing some of her new underwear).

HAPPY BIRTHDAY FAIRYCHATMOM!!!

So what’s an MMP?

'Morning Kids, I woke up at the crack of insane (4:05 am) and got some email done, played some spider solitaire, and now #3 is up and in the shower, I have about 12 minutes before I have to wake The Son up, and the dogs alarm for breakfast will go off in their fuzzy heads at the same time. I am listening to my ipod so I won’t have to hear the commotion, skiffman needs to get up anyway, so they can help roust him!

My tummy has not been behaving lately, so when I suggested to skiffman and The Son last night that they go get a take and bake pizza for dinner last night I was surprized when skiffman brought me a sub sandwich. I was planning on something blander…like milk and saltines. I don’t care for Subway, and there really is (I thought) no good sandwich shop in town. I am picky about sandwiches, if it’s not just right I would prefer to pass, thank you very much. Not snotty about it, I just like what I like. So I opened the sandwich very carefully, it looked pretty good, roast beef, tomatoes, ooh, provolone! I took a bite and oh! Horseradish! Red onions and…whoa, a lot of sauteed mushrooms! It was a very, very good sandwich! My tummy didn’t like the horseradish but my mouth did, and I now have a new favorite sandwich place. Actually the place isn’t new, but their menu has grown in the last couple of years, and the rest of the family scarfed the pizza, so apparently it’s good too! This is a very good thing, and it’s within walking distance!

I have no idea what the temperature or weather conditions are, it’s still very dark, but I noticed the daylight lasted about 45 minutes longer than it did just a week or so ago last night, yay!

Happy birthday FCM, check your email!

Okay, everyone is up, I need to ride herd and make sure everyone brushes their teeth and the like. However am I going to fill my time when I have an empty nest?

Monday Morning Post

Ming the Merciless’ Pekinese

One of the Ancients, Rue De Day started this to keep MPSIMS free of really pointless musings. And recipes. Take a look in this sticky for the whole poop.

And welcome to the Cool Kids Club. The only rules are there are no rules (and no way to hijack this thread) and to send chocolate to FCM in your first week of posting to the MMP.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY FCM!

It’ll be another nutso day here at work, so I probably won’t be able to drop in much.

So, hugs and smooches to all. Hope you’re all having a good day!

Oh! Welcome Olives!

HAPPY 39TH B-DAY, FCM!!!

Last night I made nummy salmon cakes with a nummy lemon/mayo/thyme dipping sauce. The recipe is on the back of the sunkist salmon package.

QD…MARRY THE BOY! YOU AIN’T GETTING ANY YOUNGER!

Urrrrggghhh! Billing hell and I’m way behind.

Feel better, kai.

The MMP is a place where you find recipes but where not every post in a thread containing recipes is expected to be about food (as opposed to Café Society).

It’s a place where you can whine about anything from having a headache to an idiot child and people will hug you (as opposed to Pitting you from being a whinny wuss).

It’s a place where you can ask a question with a factual answer that’s not big enough to warrant GQ.

It’s a place where we make fun of each other and sort of keep track of who has how many kids and parents and husbands but it’s ok if you can’t keep track.

It’s like a tertulia… a chat with friends after lunch, while everybody’s tummys are happily (or not so happily) stuffed and the dishes are still sitting on top of the table but there’s no hurry to clean it up.

That’s a wonderful summary.
Sniff While looking for things to throw out, I just found the memorial service booklet for the old friend of Mr. Lissar’s who died this summer in a motorcycle accident. I’m still all mixed up emotionally about it. He was one of the people that Mr. Lissar really didn’t keep in touch with, but they still had mutual friends.

He struck both of us as perpetually adolescent at 26, sponging off friends, no real goals, drifting. At the time it struck me as such as waste, and I think it still was- he resisted growing up, and now he’ll never grow up, grow into someone admirable, have a family, have a career, have a real life.

It’s so sad.

Oh, that sounds really good Nava. Spaghetti is one of the things I can make, but I have never considered making my own sauce. I even have garlic in my cupboard (garlic sealed in a package doesn’t go bad does it?). One question though: what do you mean by a spiral of oil?

And thanks for that link FCM, and of course Happy Birthday!!!

Sorry, I have neither the time nor the inclination to make one of those impressive birthday wishes the other MMPers like to show us lazy cool kids up with

Morning, all (barely). I am a Good Girl, Swampy – as per instructions, I have finished that job . So now do I have permission to post again? Of course, I have another, thank heaven MUCH shorter, one to get done by COB today, so I can’t hang out here much, but I did at least want to welcome our new folks. Welcome, Reindeer and QD! New knickers are nice; I just got some myself!

Oh dear, and I forgot to say HAPPY BIRTHDAY FCM!

Tigs you may post for a bit and have a snack but then I expect you to get to work on that transcript you have to finish today, young lady. Busy hands, busy mind, after all. Yes you have to do it. Pouting will do you no good, so stop it. Stop it right now!

I have returned from hunting and gathering at Sam’s Club. Work is now supplied with bleach, t.p., paper towels, coffee, sugar, trash bags, nine volt batteries and distilled vinegar. The world is safe once more.

Edited to add: I also got me some KFC. I had me a gnawin’ and a cravin’ for some original recipe.
