My Grumpy Morning MMP

I like to work in the dark, so I don’t need the bulb changed, thank you.

Haze: Go buy the kitchen stuff, those are hous-frau gifts. Just sayin’.

::: zooooooooooooooommmmmmmmmmmmmm::

Right! And more ways to serve Jello than any other Protestant denomination; something we’re quite proud of. Not too proud, of course – just quite.

It doesn’t taste like 7up. It tastes like carbonated fruit punch, but not overly sweet like fruit punch sometimes is.

I had this job in Miami, and everybody said that the woman in Procurement was such a bitch and ohmygod and that old mummy and… so the first time I had to request something, I figured I’d bring it in myself rather than send it by intercompany mail. You know, introduce myself, sort of a personal touch. I peeked at the stuff on her desk while she reviewed the documents. There were two Bar Mitzvah pictures: the boys could have been brothers, if not for the fact that the world had gone colored in between. So when she harrumped and set the papers down, I asked, just making chitchat, “is the boy in the color picture your grandson?”

Jewish grandmas work exactly like Spanish grandmas. And Portuguese grandmas, and Italian grandmas and Greek grandmas. I’m reasonably sure Cypriot grandmas went to the same grandmamming school; Latin American grandmas definitely did.

Mileage for other grandmas varies, sadly. I should ask about Chinese grandmas, now that I have a bunch of Chinese handy…

I had a very good afternoon off yesterday. I read some while sitting in the sun with the cat, I watched tv and knit some, I took a bike ride to the library, and I made some cookie dough and froze most of it in cookie-sized balls so I can take out 4-6 at a time and always have fresh-baked cookies. Good afternoon.

I’d feel all better today except that my back/shoulder’s started giving me trouble again so I didn’t sleep well last night so I’m still grumpy. Grr.

I used to know a bunch of math/engineer light bulb jokes, but I can’t think of any right now.

Spaz, come to the knitting side. We have yarn.

Just cracked open a can of Pomegranate Diet 7up. Aaaah

Just got back from the gynaecologist’s office. I am booked in for out-patient day surgery on Sunday for colposcopy, hysteroscopy and D&C (with a coupla punch biopsies thrown in for good measure). They will then wait to get those results back (about a week) before they can determine if they just need to burn off a few cells or rip out my uterus. Fingers crossed!

Excuse me while I go fix myself a strong drink …

Dotty, I have no advice, but I do have a lotta hugs fer ya.

To break the light bulb theme:

When kids graduate from college:

  • The Engineer asks “How does it work?”
  • The Philosopher asks “Why does it work?”
  • The Liberal Arts major asks “Would you like fries with that?”

Soft, fluffy, cuddly, pretty, pettable yarn. Mmmm… yarn.

Where was I again?

Oh, right. Sounds like you had a lovely afternoon off, taxi. I am seething with jealousy.

I’ve got zip, zilch, nada on the go this week at work, and I’m rather annoyed at the fact that I’m spending hours picking my nose at work instead of dealing with the million and one chores that need doing at home… that said, methinks I’ll sneak out a little earlier than usual so I can head home to pack for sunny Meh-hee-co!

Sending lots and lots of good thoughts your way, Dotty. Hope you get some good news after all those -oscopies… I’m glad to hear that they’re moving so quickly in terms of figuring out exactly what’s going on.

I’ve had lots of meetings today, and in between I’ve been sooooooooo unmotivated. I think this day is a write-off in terms of getting much done. Oh well.

I missed whenever it was that you said you’re going on vacation, Muppet! When are you leaving? Where in Mexico are you going? Sounds like fun!!

We’re trying to plan a trip to Charleston for early February. Yeah, we know it’s not all that warm there then, but it’ll be a lot warmer than here! We were supposed to go last year, and were planning right about this time last year when KT’s work started talking layoffs. So the trip got canceled. This year both of our companies are doing well (fingers crossed that they stay that way!) so we’re planning again.

Except that the friends that we hopped to visit (not stay with, just go sightseeing with) are expecting a baby on Feb 1st. So yay for them! But then it’s not really the best time to visit! So we’re trying to figure out when to go so we avoid the Spring Break! WooHOO! crowd but not be a pain in the rear to the new parents.

You forgot Irish grandmothers - I am convinced the only thing that separates all those women is the language they speak when not speaking English.

Hey rosie, I just watered your crops in Restaurant City. Hope they don’t drown.

What a day!!! I swear, people wait till I’m about ready to leave to dump crap on my desk. It was especially annoying today because I had a Dr appt after work and I had to leave an hour early. So I’ve got crap waiting on me first thing in the morning. rah.

I did have enough time to run by Target and get some towels I really like. And we had a good dinner. And **FCD **moved the TV from this room to the living room, so now I can watch but not listen while I’m on line.

All the other stuff I planned to get done today didn’t get done because our modem got all wonky. Till I found the “Reset” button. Now it’s all good.

Not a lot exciting here. Two more days till we hit the road. I’m ready for a break.

That’s all I’ve got.

we can do that now? thanks! I’ll get to yours next time I go there.

Lots of pretty pretty yarn.

I’ve got all my appendages crossed for you Dotty.

Tired…had 3 interviews in a row this afternoon and have 3 more to go. I’m hoping one of the candidates will be the one I’m looking for - I really need to fill this position.

Guess I’ll get some knitting done and then crawl into bed.

Is it Firday yet?

ETA: Almost forgot: immersion blenders are the bestest. You really need one, Haze.

I am now moved out of my office. Two monitors, five boxes and one fan later, it’s all at home. We have space on the POD, so it was easier to just move it ourselves than to try and coordinate a move through the Corporate Properties people. Also less likely to get broken.

That final POD ships out tomorrow. The house is so empty now, I’m almost to the point of having to stand at the kitchen counter to use the computer.

We’re going to Cozumel, taxi. A bunch of us are heading down for a week to attend Shopaholic Friend’s destination wedding (part two of three… part one of which is the City Hall ceremony this weekend, and part three being the big reception back in Canada in March). I’m really looking forward to spending a whole week lounging around on the beach, and actually getting some quality time with The Boy, seeing as I’ve seen very little of him in the past month.

Just six more days to go. Wheeeeeeeeee!

Ok guys, I’m here at the hospital. My dad had a heart attack and is in the cath lab right now. Please do not mention this on facebook as my family doesn’t know. He made his girlfriend drive him here and has asked me to wait until he’s out of there to call them. I’m very angry right now that he didn’t call an ambulance.
