My hubby is going to Louisiana

You’ve said it. He’s going there to waste resources on saving animals instead of humans. No? It’s great that he is going to aid humans a little bit while contributing to a great disservice against them.

Unregistered Bull, this is the appropriate place to continue this scintillating conversation.

And that’s the last I’ll say about that here.

pinkfreud, Georgia is a long way from Louisiana and even longer from Oklahoma, but if a homeless kitty-boo can get here, it has a home. Maybe I can take the food out of Unregistered Bulls mouth to feed it.

(Just kidding, I feed my cats Iams.)

Pinkfreud - My sister works for PetSmart corporate office in Arizona. PetSmart Charities grants millions of dollars in emergency grants for pet rescue and charities. All you need to do in these dire emergencies is ask and they will give vouchers to let you go to local PetSmart stores to get food, crates, meds, etc. If you haven’t already contacted them, you might call them at 1-800-423-PETS.

I come to point out that animals are not as important as humans and that ignoring human suffering to focus on animal suffering is fundamentally wrong especially when the human suffering is so great.

They did what? Oh, my. Link, please?

Pinkfreud, here’s hoping your husband and his cow orkers will keep safe.

Our organization, Pet Adoption League, is one of the beneficiaries of PETsMART’s generosity. I believe the organization in Baton Rouge with which we’re coordinating is also being helped by PETsMART. Thank you for posting the toll-free number. It may help others who could use PETsMART’s assistance.

Here’s the original story…and an update.

Best wishes to your husband, Pinkfreud. He’s doing an all around good thing.

I mentioned this in the Pit, but does anyone remember the story of a housecat in NY during September 11th surviving and then later being brought back to her family, who also survived?

People like your husband, pinkfreud, make such things possible, and for that, I believe, us pet owners are grateful.

pinkfreud - My sister said she was talking to the head of Charities today who said she got a call from a store today who had a guy come in wearing a dress. He said he lost all his clothes in the flood but found the dress. He needed food for dogs he had found. They gave him an immediate grant for everything he needed for the dogs.

Good wishes to your Husband. He is doing a wonderful thing.

Yeah, but you know what, Unregistered Bull, you have this ridiculous habit of coming into numerous animal-related threads to share how little you care about animals; and you do this in such a way that it derails the threads. Ironically enough, this one-trick pony belongs all to you.

You want to debate your views about how animals don’t rate very high with you? Go to Great Debates and have at it. You want to bitch at people because they aren’t doing enough–in your eyes–to help the world out? Go to the Pit and let 'er rip. But I don’t want to see you come in threads like this one and let loose with your asinine black-and-white views about animals. So, back out now and go elsewhere to play.

Beat me to it.
When I saw this it was one of the few things that made me smile this week.

As always, when someone plays the “morally superior” card, I wonder why, if Unregistered Bull really believes this, why he (or she or it) is spending valuable resources posting on a BB when he should be pawning his computer and all the resources he spends on frivolous stuff like hobbies and sending the proceeds to New Orleans to fund rescue efforts. Because obviously he’s made the decision that those human lives are worth vastly more than those everyday concerns.

Best of luck to your husband and his colleagues! I think they are doing a wonderful thing. I’d be happy to PayPal you guys a couple of dollars to help with gas if you want. My email is in my profile.

That is so sweet and thoughtful! Thank you very much for the offer. I think we are going to do fine economically. The same lady who donated the bus to our organization is serving as a patron for the expenses, and all the volunteers are going to chip in, too.

I learned tonight that while my doctor and her husband got out safely, they had to leave their cat behind. :frowning: So I’m going to be passing along the names of rescue organizations so hopefully someone can get the cat. Is your group one whose name I should pass along, pinkfreud?

Good luck to your husband and his colleagues. I have a close friend who, thank heaven, succumbed to her husband’s insistence they evacuate; if they had stayed and then had to leave in a hurry and leave their three dogs behind, I’m not sure she would have left. I know there are a lot of people who will sleep easier knowing that kind people like your husband are trying to help their nonhuman family members.

My group is based in Oklahoma, so we’re just a small part of the animal rescue effort. There are several larger organizations that are coordinating pet-related missions and funnelling the animals to groups like ours. You might suggest that your doctor and her husband contact The North Shore Animal League (email address is info@nsalamerica.org). They should be able to tell her how to proceed.

Thanks, pinkfreud. I’m getting info to them through another friend, but I will definitely pass that along. I’d already suggested Noah’s Wish.

When I was living in New Orleans last year and we had the false alarm evacuation for Ivan, my cat buried herself under the king-sized bed so deeply that we ended up having to leave her because we simply didn’t have the time necessary to dig her out. As it turned out, all was well – plus she had access to the outdoors so she could have, if need be, fended for herself (she does know how to hunt, unlike many pet cats). But if I couldn’t have gotten back to find her, it would have been really tough. I really appreciate you guys doing your part in this!
