I hope your husband gets better soon. “Upsetting the kids” - whew. Silly guy.
Everyone is glad you were there to take care of your family-especially your family .
Just thought I’d update this thread, since Hubby has had the two tests I mentioned upthread.
The first one was the barium X-ray, which was inconclusive. The doctors thought they saw an anomaly but weren’t sure what it was.
The second one was the pill camera. That was really interesting. The camera itself is very small; about the size of a large oblong tablet. Hubby had to wear a harness with a pocket on it for the recieving data storage unit. Also there were some kind of patches the nurse put on his body - kind of like the EKG patches but they had something to do with the camera. Anyway, he swallowed the camera at 7 am and at 3 pm we went back and turned in all the apparatus.
We got a letter back from the doctor about 10 days later and the results again were inconclusive. They said that there were two areas - one in the stomach and one in the small intestine - that looked inflamed. There was also one place in the small intestine which had a bit of old blood in it. And that was it - kind of a letdown after all that anticipation! But I look on the bright side - there wasn’t any evidence of Bad Stuff so I’m happy about that.
The letter also asked him to come back for some “labwork” but he’s being grumpy about that ATM and hasn’t set an appointment. I’d like to go back and look at the pictures, personally, whether he has the labwork done or not.
He’s feeling so much better and has a really, really good appetite now. Back in the days when he was taking all that powdered aspirin, he had lost a lot of appetite. That’s another good thing. The combination of stopping that and adding the AciPhex seems to be working wonders for him.
Thanks for all the well wishes.
I’m glad to hear nothing bad was found. I hope your whole family does well.
Ditto!
Damn, Ninety, that’s pretty scary!
I missed this the first time through, but I’m glad to hear so far no Bad Things have been found. FWIW, my thoughts are with you and yours.
Keep after the hubby to go back. I’m no expert but that doesn’t sound like the kind of thing you want to shrug off as a fluke.
Wishes for a complete recovery from me as well, and my story to share:
I was low on iron for the longest time, and gastro- and colonoscopies found nothing. They tried a CT, an MRI and even the pill camera, without result.
It turned out to be a Meckel’s Diverticulum as well, but with the added twist of having gastric-acid producing cells inside it, which damaged the intestines further down, without being too obvious. They finally found it with the help of a scintillator, removal was easy.
My mom had a episode of internal bleeding that they said was directly due to all the aspirin she was taking for arthritis pain and her heart. She wasn’t taking above the advised limits, but it caused her problems. Now she sticks to Tylenol.
Your husband has my prayers and good wishes too, NinetyWt!
Make him go back when they want him back; the fact that he is feeling better doesn’t mean he is all well again. And if they give him medicine, make him take the entire course no matter how well he feels.
It sounds like he is as stubborn as I and that hasn’t worked out well for me.
Thanks for the update–best wishes that they figure out what this was and/or it never comes back.
Wow, don’t know how I missed this thread the first time around!
Best wishes to your hubby for a full and uncomplicated recovery!
Oh, and make sure he goes back for the follow-up work. You can do that, you know. You’re his wife. If you don’t know how to nag him into doing whatever you want him to, you are Epic Spousal Fail!
I’m a latecomer to this thread too. NinetyWt, don’t let him talk you out of further tests. I understand that some things just can’t be diagnosed, but you have to give it your best shot to find out what the problem was. If hypovolemic shock didn’t scare the bejezzus out of him, nothing short of dead will. Keep us posted.
He relented yesterday and we went and got the blood drawn. I told him “those Internet people” were going to be breaking down the door if he didn’t go.
They said results would be in 7 to 10 days. I’m not sure what they’re looking for but we will see.
Good for you, NinetyWt! I’d go too with a threat of the Teeming Millions breaking down my door. Keep us posted.
