Gosh, where to begin. I’ve been “Spritle” since long before I was here. Back in college ('87 or '88) my friend and I signed up for WAM accounts (Univ of MD) with the names “Spritle” for me and “ChimChim” for him. I’ve stuck with that for ever!!
Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE Speed Racer; it was a part of my growing up. If I had cable TV, I’d even watch it again.
I guess I’ve just grown up. I’m not sure if I want to be “Spritle” any more.
Many others have changed their screen names, even our beloved Slythe. When you’re a mod, your screen name is most visible. To change it is a bold move.
What are your thoughts all? I’m not particularly looking for personal advice; I’m just wondering what the issues are when considering a name change.
Perhaps this should be in ATMB or something, but I’m really looking for lots of opinions on to change or not to change. In general, is it a good move, bad move, too confusing for other posters, good for the Yidden, etc.?
Sure personal preference and decision and all that, but what do you think about changing screen names?
Naturally I am against the change because the more SR references in the world the better. On the other hand, if you feel that some other name better embodies your persona, well the name “spritle” will live on w/o you.
I’ve always thought we shared something special. . .
One vote here for “keep it”. It’s you, somehow, in a way that I can’t quite put my finger on. Usually when you’re sitting there staring at the blank Registration window, your first instinct is the best one.
And I wasn’t aware of a Speed Racer connection, whoever or whatever Speed Racer may be. I just thought it sounded like a nifty handle. I always assumed it had something to do with “sprites”.
And as for "everybody’s doing it–[mom voice]–if everybody went and jumped off a 500 foot cliff, would you do it, too?
I think it would be an adjustment for those who’ve come to know and love you, but if you’re bored with a name, then by all means - change it!! Maybe to make the transition easier, you could include something about the switch in your sig line…at least for a little while so people know.
Personally I’ve been thinking of changing mine to “non sequitur” - any thoughts anybody?
