From my home PC, I have received the message that my IP address has been banned. Just wondering what’s up since I can post from my laptop at work and there isn’t a banned under my user name.
I did email the webmaster, but posting here might be quicker. Any ideas?
Raisinbread reported the same problem in this thread. You are probably using an address that has caused problems earlier. (The people behind that address, that is).
The administrators should be able to take care of it.
It’s been noted and we’ll look into it. Sorry for any inconvenience, we’ve had some, ah, unpleasant jerks using that IP range. We’ll get you fixed up ASAP, I hope.
Does the board software offer a function where you can ban an IP range but allow access from a specific IP within that range ? Or maybe allow specific usernames even if they are from within a banned IP range ?
China Guy, does the IP address ban mean you cannot access (read) the board at all or does it mean that you can read the message board but not post (write) to it ?
Thanks all. Actually, it means that I can access the Straight Dope main pages but get the banned signal when I try to access the message boards.
I am using a China based ADSL service.
No worries, I’ll try again tonight or tomorrow from home and see if it’s working or not. Although I about had a heart attack thinking this is what you see when you’re banned, and wondering how did posting about 1,000 year old eggs get one banned.
That’s odd - I keep getting messages that someone responded to this thread, yet there’s nothing new here. If it’s bridge-dwellers, much props to the mods for cleaning them up so quickly.
We’ve had a troll infestation. Well, not a troll so much as a jerk and brat. See the ANNOUNCEMENT from Ed Zotti at the top of this forum. When such posts get removed, the name of the last poster (and the post count) don’t get adjusted, so there’s a bit of a disconnect.
