My iPhone no longer syncs with my computer...

Apple’s support website is frustrating, so I’m coming here, hoping for a bit of help.

I have an iPhone 5 and have had minimal issues with it. A few weeks ago, I upgraded to iOS7. No problems. I have also done the two smaller updates to 7 as they came out.

Ever since the initial upgrade to 7, my phone no longer syncs via cable to the computer. When I plug the factory-supplied cable into my computer, the computer recognizes the phone as an external drive. The phone asks me if I trust this computer. But iTunes cannot find the phone. It does find it via WiFi sync (since the phone is plugged into a power source), but it won’t sync using the cable. WiFi is far too slow and temperamental for the changes I want to make to my apps, music, etc. on the phone. I need to connect via the cable.

Any ideas what the problem might be and how to fix it? The phone synced fine prior to iOS7.

Hard- and soft-ware: iPhone 5 with latest iOS7, Windows 8 with latest version of iTunes.

I suspect you’ve managed to set the association for that devices to be “removable hard drive” in Windows rather than an iPhone. If you have more than one USB port on the computer, try plugging it into a different one, which will give you a second shot at the question. When it says “What do you want to do with this device,” choose “Nothing” and see if iTunes recognizes it then.

If that fails, hit the Windows key to get to the Start Screen, then type “AutoPlay” – mess with the settings there for Removable Hard Drive and/or iPhone if they’re available.

I was excited to try your suggestions, but no joy. iTunes still refuses to see the phone when connected via USB.

I FIXED IT!

I finally found a helpful page at Apple support that told me how to reinstall the USB driver for the device. That fixed it right up.

Thank you for your suggestion.

Nevermind. Problem fixed.

Yes, but still, thank you for taking the time to help.
