(For those of you who don’t know what a semiconductor is: computer chips. <<shivers>>, I HATE saying it like that.)

I love this thread. What a diverse group we have.

Operations Manager

for the advertising department

What I actually do: 30% low level system support for advertising systems, 20% consulting and working on projects on those systems, 50% report writing for sales managers and executives.
Roddy

That’s awful! We should be fighting against domestic abuse, not encouraging it!

Technical Support Manager. This isn’t an IT position as another user posted - we service commercial software.

Generalist Project Manager (Telecommunications Company)

Part time law student

I’ve been there - believe me, I’ve been there. The problem isn’t that it’s an accent, the problem is that its an *American *accent; I don’t know if it’s the vowels or the consonents or what, but nothing sounds dorkier than an American speaking Hebrew. Whenever I hear an American accent I feel the urge to punch the speaker in the face, and I used to have one myself (it still comes out occasionally when I’m nervous).

Everyone here speaks English, so you’re friend’s son won’t have a problem communicating if he really needs to. But he can’t live his life here without speaking the language. Sorry I can’t really help.

Hmm. Well, someone’s already said “web design” and someone else said “writer,” but since the latter is awfully unspecific – s/he could be a nonfiction/academic writer for all I know – I’ll pipe in with:

Author (romance novels).

Or, if that does count as a repeat, then:

Book editor (fiction).

Naval Flight Officer, Director of Operations, Training, and IT for a Naval Reserve Component Command. Didn’t read the whole thread because I’m fairly sure no one here has this job. Also pretty sure no one here understands what my job is. Including me.

Lots of writers!

I’m a video game localization writer/editor.

Housewife! (Not stay-home mom, my kids are grown)

Second job: Typist-editor-research assistant-proofreader-for-my-husband-who-is-writing-his-master’s-thesis.

Combination data whisperer / nerd wrangler.

Mail carrier - US Postal Svc

Director, Systems and Services at a large college.

Since I can’t say I used to be a stripper - that’s still open
