My mom has hydropneumothorax

My mom has been in the hospital in NYC for about two weeks. She’s 79, with some lung problems and high blood pressure (not too many issues for a 79-year-old, really). She went in with a major flareup of her COPD, and went home 3 days later. But that didn’t last long - she went back last Wednesday with pneumonia (and some nasty constipation). She got mildly better over the weekend, but not much better (or worse) since then. Today they discovered she has a partially deflated lung - the diagnosis is hydropneumothorax. It’s considered life-threatening, but she may get past this.

What’s frustrating is that I’m 600 miles from NY. I had booked a flight to NY this coming Saturday to see her - now I don’t know if I should move the trip up in case she takes a further turn for the worse. She is actually doing OK, all things considered, but I think I’ll at least bump the flight up to Friday. Or i could just get in the car and drive for 11 hours.

Feh. I hate being stuck here at times like these. At least my 3 sisters are there with her.

it is more scary to be away from the action and depend on others for info.

i hope all goes well with your mom and that you have a good visit with her and find out what is happening first hand.

good and healing thoughts/prayers/vibes being sent your and your mom’s way.
