My move to the retirement facility (If joining the thread late, at least skim the first few posts)

You’re already more than halfway there. Remember saying this?

That’s your heart and guts speaking, right there.

I took the kitties to the vet first thing-- by 7:30 am. As soon as I got home, the hospital called and said they put the two in the same enclosure and EC immediately attacked Tikva. I’m not terribly surprised, but I was hoping… so they had to put them in separate enclosures. No prob. It wasn’t the money I was thinking of. I was just, you know, hoping that adversity might make them overlook their regular animosity. Having them separate will be better.

The packers are here. I asked the person in charge if this was the worst mess she’d ever seen and she assured me it wasn’t.

Lord, it’s happening…

BTW, I tested positive again this morning. So I’m masked the whole time.

It’s easier now that it’s underway. The anticipation anxiety has given way to reality anxiety.

More later…

I hope all goes smoothly.

Wishing you well. Moving is always stressful, hoping you encounter few reasons for that.

If the cats fighting and needing to be separated is the worst that happens (knock on wood) I’d take it as a win. I like it when things go wrong (in small ways, granted) upfront, it supports my vaguely cynical view of the universe and assuages the superstitious lizard mind that constantly prods the rational majority. You know the “things have been going to well, it’ll be a disaster later to balance out!” part. Begone lizard brain!

(lizard brain leaves, taking with it it’s control of various autonomous body functions, forcing PL to retract his statement!)

I think STILL testing positive for COVID has that covered.

Another here who is wishing you luck and all good things.

Thanks, y’all. I’m holed up in the bedroom watching Monk while the packers are going through the house like a swarm of locusts. Where did all this crap come from??

Monk wouldn’t have had all that! love ya

So true!!

Feh, you beat COVID symptoms, it’s lingering in the test is just it’s way of laughing at you as it heads to the grave. Getting COVID while you were still getting ready was the kicker of that chapter!

And agreed with streaming for the semi-mindless but soothing efforts to reduce stress. Last time I was sick, I just put on my Farscape stream and let it wash over me with fun characters that I liked and let it flow…

Monk is good for that. So are the early seasons of Perry Mason. Plus, Perry Mason has great cars.

I found old Highway Patrol episodes on youtube to be both soothing and full of great old cars. Plus lots of location shots in 1950s L.A.

It’s possible that, once they find themselves together with you in the new place, that they’ll be so relieved to have somebody familiar that they will make friends.

It’s also possible that you’ll have to set up two different closets for them to hide in for a while. But even if so, I think things will at least settle down after a bit to the previous situation.

That’s one of the things I love about Perry Mason, too.

Me, too. First, Tikva will hide for about a week. At least she won’t be able to hide under the house for a week.

True. But I predict that at least once she’ll cause a panic by finding a hiding place that you can’t find.

I also predict that eventually she’ll come out. And that it’s probable that you’ll eventually figure out where the hiding spot was.

Good luck. Hope it goes Smoooooth.

I’m joining late but have peeked in from time to time. Good luck with your move! The new place sounds very nice.

Oh yeah! She did that the other day. I looked in all her hiding places, and I know she hadn’t gotten out. I was starting to panic, then I looked up and there she was in the middle of the room. Actually, every cat I’ve ever had could pull that stunt. Where do they go when they disappear like that? Another dimension? :alien:

The packers are still here.

Thank you so much!
