My move to the retirement facility (If joining the thread late, at least skim the first few posts)

Thanks for the lovely pictures! They do indeed look settled in. And I see the cardboard boxes are being thoroughly sat in. – is Tikva on some sort of heating mat in that last picture? if not, maybe she would like one? Though I suppose you might have to get two!

That is a little fake-lambswool pad that I use in the carrier when I take them to the vet. I have it on a box in front of the window so she can comfortably lounge there. It took her forever to even try it out.

I do keep a heating pad on the sofa, but for me, not them. Now that I only have a shower and no tub, the heading pad gives me something warm against my back when I’m feeling achy, chilled or tired. Okay, the cats use it, too…

I’ve been thinking about this post. It’s true that as busy working adults, we don’t seem to have time or bandwidth for those intense, sweet friendships.

Now that we’re on our own and retired, that gift is available again. It’s still sweet.

The gift of childhood again.

In a way, it is, kind of. Mary Lou and I have decided that life here is a cross between a cruise ship and a sorority house. (Not that I have experience of either except from movies and hearsay.)

We acknowledge constantly how fortunate, blessed, lucky (choose one or all) we are to be able to take it easy at this point in our lives. I’m aware of this and grateful practically every minute of every day.

In my experience, the ratio would be about 3:1 and you have to chase a cat off the majority of the time before you use it.

Hehe. :smirk_cat:

I just think it’s very thoughtful of the kittehs to let you use their magically warm bed from time to time.

They live to serve me. :slightly_smiling_face: Oh wait! I got that exactly backwards.

Thelma Lou I appreciate this thread as I’ve always planned to retire myself in 2050. I’ll probably share a camper shell with a boxfan keeping me cool. Yet I’ve always known the importance of saving even just $20/wk for retirement. It has compounded wonderfully since 1990.

For sure, having a cushion of funds in your retirement is just as important as having a comfy bed and enough to eat.

How are things at the facility?
