My Name Is Earl - 1/26/05

Randy has dibs on Catalina. I’m calling dibs on Nadine Valazquez!

First thing I do when I get home has to be to watch my DVRed copy of this episode.

Wait, wait- Catalina is working at Club Chubby? When did this happen? I thought I watched the entire episode. Did I miss this line?

A little help?

You missed more than the line. You missed Catalina pole dancing with a pool cue.

It was past tense though. She worked there, not works there. For about a month (back in 1960…)

I’m sure it all goes back to some freaky mommy issues or something, but I find Catalina most attractive in her maid outfit.

Spank me!

Damn damn damn damn :smack: :smack: :smack: :smack:

Best episode in quite a while. A lot of great moments (most mentioned above).

I did think Joy’s language was a bit out of left field. For the most part, the show has been family friendly. Sure there have been some bad words, but not a barrage like that.

I hope that isn’t the trend. I don’t mind, but I thought the show was working well as an all audiences thing.

Camden, New Jersey, I believe.

Anyway, I thought this was a subpar episode. Not nearly enough Joy, not enough Catalina (although the one scene we got was quite nice), and the whole thing was just a little too bland. Randy’s conversation with the prisoner was good though.

I had a business dinner last night. Can I get a quick recap?

Earl found out that an old buddy of his was going to be sent to the state pen for a long time, and decided he’d better help him while he could (he was already in jail). He went to visit the guy, who he had promised a long time ago he would bust out if ever he found himself in this situation. Earl was hoping he didn’t remember, but he did. Not to worry, the guy didn’t want Earl to bust him out. He wanted him to bring a whole list of things, including, but not limited to: his grandma, a box of donuts from his favorite place, and a newspaper. (Was there more? I don’t remember). So Earl thinks no problem, right? Wrong. He has all kinds of problems, including, but not limited to: encountering the one-legged girl at the donut shop, having to force eyedrops into granny’s eyes, and getting up “early.” Well, he can’t do it and keeps having to get up earlier every day to try to get everything accomplished. Meanwhile, Randy decides he needs a purpose, and goes through several jobs, finally ending up as a bus boy at the Crab Shack where Darnell works. At the end, Randy ends up going along with Earl and they get everything done in only an hour and a half. They agree that Randy’s purpose must be to help Earl, since he obviously can’t cross everything off his list without help.
Oh, and in case you hadn’t noticed from the boner-fest this thread has turned into, Catalina is working at Club Chubby.

So she’s moonlighting or she quit the motel? And isn’t she a bit…um…underqualified? I never thought of her as “chubby.”

Have they explicitly said that Club Chubby is a joint for plus-sized strippers? “Chubby” is also a slang term for an erection, so I assumed that’s what it meant.

She worked (past tense) at Club Chubby.

whoosh!

Was anyone else amused by the extensive search just to sit on the other side of a glass partition from the prisoners, so there wasn’t even an opportunity to pass anything?

I think I missed that part. Maybe someone else will enlighten us on that. And “chubby” doesn’t refer to the dancers. hinthint*

This was the first really good episode in a while. Most of them have been fun, this is the first one to actually tell a funny story and have good character bits.

The rundown is this…

Years ago Earl had a crime buddy, at that crime buddy’s b-day party Earl told a really inappropriate anecdote about the guy and ruined the party. Earl finds out that said budd y is going to prison… this is a problem because he’s on Earl’s list. He visits the friend and the friend says to make up for giving him a bad day… give him a good day before he goes to prison. His day includes- That days newspaper from his tiny home town (available from his Uncle), a box of donuts from Yummy donuts, and a visit from his Grandma that is too old to drive. Seems easy enough right?
the subplot is that Randy needs to find his own purpose. Earl actually kind of berates him into leaving him alone so he can do his thing and Randy can find his. RAndy tries selling cleaning products door to door (Joy ends up tricking him into cleaning her trailer), he works briefly as an orderly (the already mentioned patient shaving scene) and a make-up testing subject (he goes blind temporarily).
Earl has all sorts of trouble… see visiting hours end at noon. So it takes him about a week to manage all three goals and get to the prison in time. The uncle is in a wheelchair and doesn’t trust Earl with his mailbox key so he insists on Earl carrying him up anbd down the stairs. The onelegged girl works at the donut shop. And grandma is handful. Randy eventually comes along with EArl and helps him. With Randy’s help it only takes Earl an hour or so to get the paper, get the donuts and get Grandma (she needs eyedrops every 10 minutes and she HATES them) to the prison. Earl realizes that Randy’s purpose IS to help him cross things off his list.

Now that was one hell of a simultaneous posting. I guess there was no use in beating around the bush, since Diogenes the Cynic just came right out and said it. And now I’ve said “beating around the bush.” This thread makes me feel dirty.

That’s what I thought. “Chubby” isn’t the first word that pops into my head when I’m considering slang terms for erections (not that I do that very often.)

Worked. Past tense. Gotcha.

Oh yeah! Now I remember!
Thanks guys.

Last night I was talking to my daughter about how much I love Randy. She said she didn’t know why I loved him so much, he’s just like her former step-father.
I thought about it for a minute and she’s right! Ex was a little bit smarter but they could be triplets if we included Jeff Daniels’ character in Dumb and Dumber.

Wow, I’m a bunch of posts too late with the rundown… BAH!

Anyway… I like that EArl can be a bit of jerk sometimes especially the way he treats Randy…It rings truer to the character being a reformed bad guy and not just a goofy loser.

One Legged is pretty hot.
