I am late today on Earl but my wife and I were noticing that Earl’s quest to give his friend, the “Jackass Tries to Rob a Liquor Store With a Crossbow”, a perfect day played out like a video adventure game, including the numerous resets.
They mention Camden county. The area looks nothing like Camden, NJ, which is a big, not very nice, city surrounded by dense suburbs. We think this is set in Maryland - I believe there have been references to other Maryland cities, (Aberdeen?) and the whole border state trailer trash feel seems right.
Not dissing Maryland - my daughter goes to U Maryland, and I like the state.
You can read that two ways. If you are a wife and keep buying it for your hubby he will get chubby.
If you are the hubby and by it for your wife, she might give you a reason to get a chubby.
Yeah, that was a serious security check – even checking in their mouths – and all while they just hold a normal conversation. At least they didn’t get a cavity search (that we know of…!)
Was I the only one who was expecting the newspaper to be more than just a newspaper? I figured it was a clever way for Earl’s friend to trick him into breaking him out as he’d promised, by having his uncle slip a file or something into the newspaper.
Wait a second! Did they do the mouth check at the beginning of the episode. Or only at the end of the episode. Presumably after the other prisoner had a chance to carry out the plan with his girlfriend.
Note that “Chubby” (cf. Chubby Checker) could also be the name of the club owner like Chez Denise. It would be even more Earl-ish if “Chubby” was a gal.
I got a good look (HDTV) at Earl’s license plate. Black numbers on white background, no state name, no slogan, no year, no sticker. Just plain white. So it looks like they’re deliberately keeping the location vague.
The location of the show is vague and I’m sure it’s deliberately so. Also, the country where Catalina comes from is vague. Randy says he spoke “Mexican” to her, but Earl also said she came to the U.S. over water, which wouldn’t follow.
I was not only amused by the search at the jail to just chat through a glass partition, but also the fact that when Earl and Randy started wrestling Grandma to give her her eyedrops, the guys just stood there. Hey, their job was to search, and only to search!
They have been vague about it’s location. They live in Camden County, but in “Stole Beer From A Golfer,” Randy took a bus to Hagerstown to get the dog back. Hagerstown is in Maryland, although there’s no Camden County.
There are palm trees around the pool at the motel, but I figured that’s just because they’re filmimg in LA.
The first scene of the first episode has Earl & Joy making out in a public rest room. The first bit of dialogue is “You have great breasts, [insert wrong name].” “My name is Joy.” “You have great breasts, Joy.” Joy then has Earl Jr by Darrell/Crabman. And Earl’s first major good deed is helping a gay guy gain the self confidence to find a boyfriend.
Not exactly a poster show for “family friendly”. I love the show but if I had wee kids, they’d probably be sent to bed before I watched it.
