My Name is Earl 11/9

Does Ethan Suplee (Randy) look like he’s losing weight? I noticed it during this last episode. I agree with **What Exit.**Randy is probably my favorite actor on the show followed closely by Jaime Priestly. I’ll bet there are a lot of outtakes with them cracking up before they get down that straight serious look while delivering those outrageous lines.

You only THINK they’re his real family.

See, I just find the character of Randy annoying and all over the map (I really don’t blame Ethan Suplee).

Is he supposed to be retarded, or crazy, or slow, or idiot savant, or what? Sometimes he’s “wise beyond his years,” other times he’s borderline brain-dead (“Is Mr. Turtle really a lizard in disguise?”). But it doesn’t work for me like Lisa Douglas or Gracie Allen crazy; it just comes off as annoying and self-contradictory.

I think just kinda slow, a bit of a manchild. I laugh at him hardest when he does innocent, adolescent things or when something happens that overwhelms his mind and he gets that hilarious, ‘draw back in fear’ look on his face.

The sign had a grinning portrait of Darnell and the words, “If you know who HARRY MONROE is, call my cell, 555-1234,” IIRC. I loved that Randy called Joy to rat him out, and Darnell not only didn’t hold it against him, but later shared a bed with him and Earl.

Earl’s world is just bizarre enough I could easily envision Harry/Darnell/Crabman calling his family after he was admitted to the Witness Protection Program, flaunting the rules, and inviting them all to move to Camden County to be near him. I also don’t get the sense that the show’s producers are slavishly committed to continuity.

I’m sure I’ve mentioned it in another EARL thread, but anyone else think that Lee & Supplee would make a great OF MICE AND MEN’s George & Lenny?

Hell yeah! Hadn’t thought of that before. I’d always be expecting them to break character and do something Earlish and Randyesque, though.

That would be great casting!

Which makes me think, do y’all suppose they are gonna be type-cast after this? I mean, every time you see Jason Lee or Randy Suplee, are we going to think of Earl and Randy? Are they good enough actors to play other people? I hope they are…

Both actors are good at playing different roles and making you forget who they are. Jason Lee has already played more than one role in a single movie and pulled it off.
Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back (2001) … Brodie Bruce/Banky Edwards
The Jeff Bebe character in Almost Famous (2000) was a good stretch away from Earl.

I am looking forward to The Other Side (2007) where it appears he will have several small supporting roles. Looks like a good movie with the “independants” A-list of actors supporting.
