My Name Is Earl - 2/08

Joy was exposing her nude body to Randy when she asked him the question. What part of Joy’s anatomy might Randy describe as a “fuzzy lighting bolt?”

(hint: think strategic shaving of the sort that Joy is likely to engage in)

Has it ever been established what kind of relationship Joy had with her dad? I kept wondering if Liberty was wishing for something Joy didn’t have either.

Ahh, I wasn’t looking at the screen, didn’t realize Joy was exposing herself. Thanks!

They hinted she got along well with her Dad but was terminally embarressed by her screwed up Mom. (Played by Brett Butler IIRC)

I found the episode: “My Name Is Earl” White Lie Christmas (2005)

By the way I am a little slow, it was the first time I noticed that Timothy Stack does some of the writing.

Jim

I don’t think Joy is stupid. She’s got a very narrow view of the world, and is monumentally insensitive and selfish, but she’s not dumb. I think it’s perfectly believable that she could have studied enough to do OK in school (as noted, especially going up against her nemesis), and done what so many of us have in some fashion - immediate data dump of almost everything learned to pass tests, etc.

I think it’s more of a strain to believe she found compassion for Liberty than to believe she could perform in school.

They have been showing a gentler side to Joy. She had a guilt trip after the man she kidnapped died, and spent most of the Randy/Catalina marriage episode heavily drugged for court. I don’t think it hurts that they’re showing character growth for her to match Earl and Randy’s.

Ever hear a joke with the punchline, “First you have to get their attention?”

That reminded me of the Friends episode with Giovanni Ribisi (who’s also been on Earl), naming one of his kids Frank, Jr., Jr.

I laughed out loud all through this one.

“Road Whore!”

I loved the teacher trying to keep “Henry Cabot Lodge” and “Woodrow Wilson” from coming to blows during the League of Nations school debate.

And I about died when Randy was drinking beer and milk simultaneously through straws as an experiment.

The Klanimal = comedy gold.

If they ever do a live-action version of The Simpsons, the scrawny actor who played Ray Ray is a shoe-in for Cletus the Slack-Jawed Yokel: List of recurring The Simpsons characters - Wikipedia
