"My Name is Earl" -- 2/19/2009 episode

What did you guys think of tonight’s episode?

Hysterical - Funniest episode in a while. I loved Earl’s POV shots during the big caper.

“My contact lens popped out”

Agreed. Great episode. Earl getting dragged along during the spy caper like Bernie from “Weekend at Bernie’s” was a hoot. The weird and disturbing glimpses he had of the action were great fun, and Randy got to be the smart one by explaining to Earl not to tell the scary torture guy who he loves.

Wow, I thought it was the worst episodes of this show so far. I felt that Earl, prior to this episode, was gaining back some of the funny, but this episode was just terrible. It was, IMHO, a shark jumping event…

I also think it was a very funny episodes.

The “Cut the blue wire” payoff was funny. Or when Earl tried to pretend he didn’t know who Darnell was when he had that photo in his hand. Randy playing with the hypodermic stuck in him.

Very good.

Did anyone have a problem with the apparent internal consistency? We’ve been previously told that Darnell’s real name is Harry Monroe and that he’s in the Witness Protection Program because of something dark involving Halliburton.

So why would his father be looking for Darnell Turner? And why would a former spy be in the Witness Protection Program? (One possible explanation is that he really is Darnell Turner, who was undercover as Harry Monroe.)

I loved it! Any episode with lots of Darnell in it is fine by me. And Danny Glover was great casting! I’m kind of sad that Darnell is no longer in Witness Protection, unless he agrees to go on more Secret Missions, which would be terrific. Is everybody going to call him Harry now?

ETA: Gee, Dewey, that’s too much for me.

I thought it was funny! I loved them slamming each other back and forth, trying to break the post. Then Randy got one more “to make it even.” Earl says, “Fair enough.” Hee!

Joy putting on different hats to be the servants. “Time for ‘Pedro’ to mow the lawn.” And the line about the kids picking each other’s noses!

Is Danny Glover alright? I had a hard time hearing him because he was talking in a whisper.

“I’m getting too old for this stuff” was a great line, too.

I thought it was hilarious, and while I’ve enjoyed all the recent diversions, I think it’s time for Earl to get back to the list.

Because his father knew that Darnell Turner was his secret identity, and the people there would obviously not know him as Harry Monroe.

They explained in the episode that Crabman testified as to the illegal nefarious operations in which the Agency was engaging (probably on behalf of Haliburton.)

I was wondering about that myself! His voice was really getting on my nerves, but, at the same time, I was wondering if something had happened to him to make his voice that way.

Great episode, though! I really enjoy this show!

Only one problem – no Catalina! I needs to see me some Catalina!

Didn’t get a single laugh out of this one. Drifted too far into fantasy for me. (I don’t mind that when it seems confined to Camden.)

ETA: That’s the problem I’ve had with the whole “Witness Protection” storyline. Also, I miss Joy being a truly heinous bitch.

I’m mixed. It wasn’t bad and had its moments. Since they needed to bring Darnell and Joy back, they had to think of something. But if they were to continue with the far-fetched plots, then I agree that this was the shark-jumping episode. Hopefully they’ll get back to the list and their roots.

I thought it was pretty darn funny. Too many good lines to bother quoting favorites. Okay, one: He told us you were killed in the American-Canadian war."

Blank stare. “No. You two need to read more.”

It’s a little disappointing we apparently know everything about Darnell now. No more mystery about him. Except…

Remember the Cops episode when Darnell was living with his mom or grandmom and growing pot? When could that have happened?

The 1991 movie Grand Canyon was on cable the other day and I noticed that his sounded like that, although not as bad as on My Name is Earl. So whatever it is has been there for a while.

You are right about the mystery adding to Darnell’s appeal. I am not sure how the new revelations will affect my appreciation and enjoyment of the Crab-Man/Darnell character.

I think that Darnell had stated earlier that the mom/grandmom was another person in witness protection program who had testified against Halliburton, or something like that!

Ah, that makes sense. She just played the senile old woman.

Excellent episode. I had stopped watching Earl after last year but I’ve caught back up this year and they seem to be back to form again.

I almost stopped watching during Earl’s extended stay in prison, which just was not very appealing to me.

This season’s episodes, however, have been very good!
