My name is Little Nemo and I have a Castle addiction

Yeah, it took me a minute to place him.

I missed the first few minutes because of the basketball game. Can somebody fill me in, pretty please?

In the opening teaser, Beckett’s old friend stumbles out of a building, injured. He tries to crawl away and hide. The main bad guy comes out. Beckett’s old friend promises that hell is going to rain down on the main bad guy, who goes ahead and shoots him. Next, we’re at the crime scene. Beckett’s colleagues suggest that she might not want to remember her old friend this way. She points out to Castle that if it were HER dead on the ground, he wouldn’t shy away like that. I think the next scene is the standard “you’re too CLOSE to this” speech from the captain to Beckett, followed by her request to burn some vacation days to head to L.A. to find the main bad guy.

Far enough?

I’ve finally gotten interested in Castle. I had a tough time because the actor reminded me so strongly of one of the slimy Baldwin Brothers. Even now, I always get those guys in my head the first time I see Castle in a scene. It’s more than his appearance, his acting style reminds me of them too.

It’s not his fault. I’m sure other fans have struggled with this association too.

It’s a common problem. Fortunately, there is an easy cure : take 14 of those and post again next Tuesday.

I can sorrrrrta see the resemblance, but only because you pointed it out. It’s never occurred to me that there might be any similarity. Nathan Fillion is very much his own goofy personality.

I liked the way they got out of having to pay Laura Prepon for the episode. As for the season finale: after last night, I’m pretty sure it’s either the Medical Examiner or the Captain that gets killed. Probably Lanie.

I don’t see any resemblance at all between Nathon Fillion and the Baldwin brothers. Even now when I’m searching for one.

Never heard this observation before.

Saw it, but drawing a blank on it. Remind me, please?

Her character is in rehab.

Prepon plays the actress who has been cast as Nikki Heat in the Nikki Heat movie. When Castle visited the set and asked where the actress was, it was hinted she was in rehab for pill addiction.

The show is sooooo cheesy, and yet I love it. Mostly because the actors seem to have fun with it, and there seems to be some self-awareness of the ridiculous plot elements. I mean, Castle getting a bullet-proof vest to wear around crimes scenes that says WRITER on the back? Hilariously ridiculous.

I really like the actor who plays the captain - I feel kind of bad for him, as all his lines are straight up hard-ass police captain cliches. Would like to see him get more lines, and better ones.

He’s a hard-ass, but not the cliche one that’s always down on the unorthodox partners. He tends to be pretty sensible, and when he does come down on Beckett it’s clear that he either doesn’t have a choice in the matter or thinks it’s best for her. He’s backed them up on more than one occasion.

There was a recent episode where Beckett and Castle brought a politician’s secretary to the station for questioning, and the politician flipped a nut. The captain made them let her go, then told them it was a smart move. The cliche hard-ass would have freaked out at them for upsetting a bigwig.

That’s the main reason I like the show, other than the banter. None of the characters are forced to carry the Idiot Ball or otherwise act irrationally, except maybe for the actual murderers. Generally speaking the characters have reasonable motivations or justifications behind what they do.

I think so, Castle and Becket were in LA when I could finally change channels.

Thanks!

silenus: I think it will be Lanie or the cop who’s been making smoochie-face with her. Cops with new relationships typically don’t live very long.

I think it is going to be:

The captain. He just announced retirement. Beckett says that he is the Brett Favre of the NYPD, he’ll be back. For me that was a foreshadowing.

I’m actually not sure what anyone’s talking about. I’m inferring that there was news that someone is going to leave the show. Based on that, it’s pretty obvious from the most recent episode that it’s Alexis. The captain announcing retirement was a fakeout. Beckett’s prediction certainly seems like foreshadowing, but I think that’ll be played straight. If there’s only one person leaving the show, it’ll be Alexis. Third season B plots will be all about Castle struggling to cope with his daughter being gone.

Oh, hell yes. That’s the kiss of death. The only thing worse would be if Person X had an extensive retirement plan or a new, hot-shot rookie partner.

Bosstone - The news is that someone dies. Not leaves. Different thing entirely. Not to say that Alexis can’t leave, too. But odds are the Captain is toast. Dieing nobly, of course.

I hadn’t heard this rumour before either, but yes…

Isn’t there a trope about an older cop dying on his last day of the job?

Well, as we’re all guessing, I think:

Lanie the Medical Examiner Forensics thingummy (or whatever her title is) will die, and Arye Gross will be her permanent replacement.

I hope not. Perlmutter is an asshole. Lanie is fun.
