Ever since I’ve lived here, I’ve really only known one of my neighbors, a little old lady by the name of Donna. A fiesty old gal who was always doing something. She slowed down a bit a year or so ago, when she was diagnosed with cancer and had to start taking chemo, but she still kept going. Right before I left for my mother’s on the 23rd, I saw a couple of cars in front of Donna’s place, and thought that it might be a bit odd, but figured she was having family visit her. When I came home a few days later, there weren’t any cars at Donna’s place, and I assumed she’d gone to visit her family. Today, as I was leaving to go to the store, I saw a Suburban and a full size pick up parked in her front yard. I decided to go over and investigate since I knew Donna hadn’t been feeling well.
I knocked on the door and was greeted by her brother, sister, and one of her nephew’s. They had taken Donna to stay with them over Christmas and Donna had passed away Christmas Eve. They said that she was fine, almost right up until the end. Bright, alert, and not feeling bad at all. She did have a moment where she said she didn’t know if she’d make it back home, but that was pretty much it. Went to bed not feeling well, and just never woke up.
Such a shame. I would have liked to have learned more about her ex-husband who stole beer mugs from bars.
I have no idea how 2 of these threads got posted. If a passing mod could be so kind as to lock one of them, I’d be greatful.
My neighbor was born on Christmas Eve (not this one. 70-some years ago.)
Nice of you to check up on her, Tuckerfan.
My neighbor died on Thanksgiving weekend. We came home to find emergency vehicles in front of their house. We didn’t know her very well; she was already sick with cancer when they moved in a year or so ago. We often spoke with her husband when he was out working in the yard.
The man who lives behind us is very sick, waiting on a kidney transplant. Every time there are a couple of extra cars in their driveway we worry that he has died.
On a happier note, there’s a lady up the street who is due to deliver her fifth baby any minute now.
Sorry about your neighbor, Tuckerfan.
A twenty-year veteran secretary in our department took a new job and moved on. Her job was offered to one of our floater secretaries, Joanne, a very nice and competent woman. This was welcome news, as I and another permanent secretary have been covering the vacant desk and we were overwhelmed. Joanne was to start tomorrow, January 2nd.
Except Joanne died on Christmas Eve day. Her son had been expecting her for the holidays, and when she didn’t arrive or call, went to her apartment to check up on her. He found her dead on the floor and e-mailed us to let us know. It was a shock - I had just been teaching her one of our applications two days before. She was only 60 and seemed perfectly healthy - we still don’t know why she died.
