My New Foster Dog

I am so very sorry… I had not seen that bad news. Poor little Daisy.

Congratulations on giving this dog another chance. It sounds the adopter is going to give her a great home.

PapSett - I took my foster to her new adoptive family this afternoon. A mom and dad and three older kids and a bichon. First thing she did was poop in their house, after never having an accident with me! :smack: I stayed with her there for about an hour as she became comfortable with them, then sent them on a walk while I sneaked out. Apparently she saw my car and went crazy trying to chase me. Then when they got her back to the house, she was barking and snappy with them (although never biting, just not letting them touch her). I think the woman was about to have me drive the 50 miles back there and pick her up. I told her to just ignore the dog and let her chill while they went about their lives and had dinner. I just got a call that she’s calmed way down, is accepting treats of cheese adn letting them pet her. The oldest kid wants her to sleep with him.

I’ll check with them tomorrow and see how’s she’s doing. I asked her to remember that this dog has now been in three homes plus a life-threatening dog attack in the last month and she needs patience.

Fingers crossed that she settles in and they give her a chance. It makes me so sad what these dogs go thru. LuLu freaked out tonight because she was sleeping and I had on a Saturday Night Live DVD… she heard a male voice she didn’t know and it scared her half to death. I am certain that she has been abused by a man somewhere along the line. I am very glad that she is going to live with a single woman.

Well, John Belushi would scare anyone to death. I think they’ll all be fine. The family was just surprised because she was so mellow while I was there.

Hope it all goes well, St. Germain, and she settles in nicely.

I talked to the woman today and she said the little dog was settling in very well. The dog slept with the woman - she put her in a dog bed in her room, and as soon as the light went out, she hopped on the bed and curled up with her. YAY!

StG

Sounds like a successful rehoming! I hope LuLu’s goes smoothly too… she will be going to the east coast and it would be a little far to go to get her back. :frowning:

What great news!

We are trying to set up transport to get Lu to her new mama this weekend and have a few legs to fill… any chance there is a Doper that could pick up any of these legs? PM me for info… We are also transporting a male English Setter named Bear, so there would be 2 dogs.

We are so, so close…

PapSett - That’s too far for me, sorry.

Marley’s name has been changed to Lacey (they said Marley was a boy’s name). The family is totally in love. The woman can’t get over how well behaved, how playful, how well-house trained she is. Lacey sleeps with the parents, even though the oldest boy wanted her to sleep with him, because that’s where she’s decided she wants to sleep. The older Bichon isn’t playing much with her, but the family is more than making up for that - in fact, I was feeling a little sorry for the Bichon as the woman was going on and on about Lacey. I feel so much better about the whole thing now.

Oh - and the rescue has said they’re going to send me the adoption fee, since all they did was post her on their website. That will help with the big bill for the emergency surgery.

Wonderful news about Lacey! And about the rescue giving yu the adoption fee, that’s really great! A&B pays back any vet bills on your foster dog… if you ever want to foster for A&B, just let me know, there are so many English Setters in need! And a lot in the Kentucky/Tennessee area, especially.

Right now I am about ready to send NICK off in LuLu’s place and keep LuLu… he is misbehaving BADLY the last couple days. Do you think she would notice?

Bumping … I’ve been curious. How’s she doing?

Thank you for asking! Lu is doing very well. She is still a little nervous around men, but getting better. Her new mom has friends that bring dogs over for ‘play dates’, and has discovered that Lu is tennis ball obsessed. Here are 2 recent pictures she sent me:

And just for fun (and because she is adorably cute) This is LuLu’s 8 month old daughter Dolly, who was fostered out at the same time Lu was. Dolly has been adopted and they are working on setting up transport to her new home.

I am still waiting to get another foster. This girl, Sugar, is supposed to be my next, but we are having some problems. First she came into heat, and with my intact male, THAT would never work, so she has to be spayed first. Then she developed kennel cough and has to recover from that before she can be spayed. Hopefully soon I will have another girl to foster & spoil!

Bumping up for Panda, I want to be sure they see Lu in her new home.

Aww Lu looks great and her daughter is adorable  Any idea when you’re getting Sugar?

I’m so glad she’s happy and doing well! Yay!

Hopefully Sugar gets well and her spay goes smoothly and she can come live with you soon. I wish I could foster, but it’s not possible for us right now. I do enjoy volunteering at the shelter and the shelter workers are always trying to get me to take dogs home.

I haven’t heard any more about Sugar for a copuple weeks. I tried emailing the foster coordinator and never heard back. Sugar is the 4th dog I have tried for as a foster since LuLu went home, and something always came up. Hoping I hear something soon…
