My noggin is too big

I like wearing baseball caps…mostly to keep sunlight out of my eyes (I have a bit of photophobia due to keratoconus).

The problem is the size of my head…at the cap line I measure about 24 1/2 inches which (depending on which chart I use) equals a size 7 3/4 or 7 7/8 hat.

The “one size fits all” hats are blatant lies of course…even coming across a source of fitted hats is tough. There is a store at the mall (Hat World I think?) that sells nothing but baseball caps…nadda in my size.

Any other dopers in the same boat?
Any ideas for hat sources?

I feel some real size discrimination issues here:)

I like your noggin beagedave.

Try a “Big and Tall” Speciality store, or catalog.
They often sell larger hat sizes (although I’m not sure about baseball caps)

The corrective surgery is quite invasive so I suggest you learn to live with it. I usually can unless my mom is in a guilt flinging mood and reminds me of how traumatic and damaging my birth was to her. Try keeping your hair short as possible. When my hair was to the middle of my back it was impossible to find hats to fit.

Knowing the trauma of not finding a 7-1/2 in stock

I have you beat. My head is size 8.

I have a couple of places on-line for hats. For non-baseball-cap kinda suff, like fedora, newsboys, etc. try Miller Hats. I found another place one that custom builds hats, but I have never ordered one (it’s Clearwater Hats).

For sports-type hats, try Sage Sport. You’ll not have any luck finding large sizes in anything but Major League Baseball, I’d bet. I got a Cubs hat there, but they had to backorder it for two weeks…

Re: Hat Sizes: Take the diameter of your head, divide by pi. That’s all there is to it.

Good luck, let me know what you find.

thanks Kellibelli;)

on further examination…it appears that 7 3/4 don’t fit, Hat World had an 8 in a Yankees cap…it seems to sorta fit, I’ll probably go with that size (but NOT the Yankee cap) since 7 7/8 seems rare.

and thanks Joey, I’ll give those sites a whirl…I noticed that hatworld has a site (hatworld.com natch), but most of their hats don’t come in mega-super-too-big-for -the-birth canal size

for shits and giggles, we measured the wife’s hat size, hers is actually a bit below the smallest size…G*d help any future offspring

thanks Kellibelli;)

I’m with Joey, another size 8.

I had all but given up on ever being able to wear a baseball cap until I went to an actual, honest-to-Cecil major league baseball park’s very own gift shop, wherein I found fitted caps in size 8.

Since then, I have found them here also.

My problem now is that I live in a town with a AAA team, not a major league team, so I can’t support my home team the way I’d like.

Good luck, dave, and keep yo’ big head up!

Have you tried talking to the merchandise manager for your AAA team? Depending on the vendor they use, they may be able to order you a hat in your size. Heck a lot of AAA teams are happy to have any kind of fans at all… maybe they will comp. you a hat.

Okay, the only hat that I’ve ever found that fit comfortably on my head was an 8-1/2…and those baseball caps with the notched adjustable strap thingies are usually ridiculous. If I see a cap that I’m in love with and it doesn’t fit, I’ll buy it anyway and if I feel compelled to wear it, I just settle for the “little-hat-on-the-top-of-the-big-head” look, a la Jack in the Box (my father had it even worse, as he looks more like Mayor McCheese.
(sorry about all the fast food references).
Anyway: forget the caps and save your hair.
