Hopefully this won’t be taken as flagrant abuse of the boards for advertising purposes, as this is something that I’m genuinely excited about and want to share.
I directed this play, a production of Edward Albee’s Zoo Story, and very soon I’m going to go oversee the final rehearsal. We open tomorrow night downtown for a two-night run. Very brief, but still, I’ve got a show opening downtown!! How awesome is that? Our producer also found a musical group to play before the show starts, and I understand that they’re a fun band. To be technical about it, we’re on band number two. Band number one, the unknown but well named “Miss Muffet and the Mexicans” cancelled for some reason that was never brought to my attention. Our intrepid producer was able to solve that problem, though, so all is well.
If you Austin Dopers feel like it, come on down!
The show happens at the Hideout Theater, 7th and Congress. It’s across from the Paramount Theater. There’s a Wendy’s right next to it.
The show happens:
Saturday, May 31 @ 7 pm
Sunday, June 1 @ 5 pm
Maybe I’ll see someone there (post if you’re coming and I’ll keep an eye out for you), or maybe not, but in any case I’m psyched as hell about this. Not bad for having graduated High School less than a week ago.
Oh man, I lived in Austin for three years, but alas I am now in good ol’ NYC. Okay, okay, so I’m not sorry one bit but I do wish you luck on your directorial debut (I assume) of this great play!
DMark - Reviews? We should be so lucky as to attract reviewers. Well, maybe that gives us street cred or something… “Yeah, we’re underground, dude. Coming to see our show makes you really cool!”
DooWahDiddy - I think it’s a safe bet to say that NYC beats Austin in the theater department by just a little bit. And my directorial debut was in the 9th grade, when I directed a scene from Romeo and Juliet as a project. I was way hooked.
lightingtool - Good advice. I’ll be in the back of the theater, in the little control booth, so at least I can pace and smoke and bug the producer about the lights and stuff. Breathing… breathing…
That’s great, Tapioca Dextrin! I think I’ll be handling the box office, so if you come you’ll almost certainly get to stop and chat. I’m the guy with the about shoulder-length brown hair.
Hope to see you there. I think it’ll be a very entertaining evening. Feel free to bring say, everyone you know.
