I think it must be this difference. The current count shows as 3775.
But if you push Search for Posts, it says “Displaying Topics 1 to 25 of 3792”
So I guess the count in this case never caught up and is stuck at 17 uncounted posts.

Yeah, that was discussed in an ATMB thread a few weeks back. It’s an anomaly of the system. What’s listed under the name is the correct count, IIRC.
The number under the name must be the wrong count, since you can reach the last page of vanilla’s posts and do the math for inbetween pages. So the larger number is the true one.
And that would make sense, because it’s easier to have a bug that loses a post in some cases, like a crash between updating the thread and updating the counter. To have the larger number be wrong would require the software to do something twice sometimes.
I searched for the thread I started that dantheman is talking about but I couldn’t find it. Sorry. It wasn’t that exciting… he already summed it up.
Here it is: Something strange about post count and user search. I don’t know. There’s something about that thread that I don’t like…
Well, I think it’s safe to say a lot of people lost posts over the past week. Manually changing the post counts can be done in theory, but there’s no way anyone at the Reader has the time or inclination to correct everyone’s count. Ain’t the end of the world.
We lost a bit of content this week, approximately 12 hours worth of posts from Monday, September 16.
That means that whatever was said and done on that day is gone forever as if it never existed; to our database, it certainly never did.
That means your post counts too, dammit.
Please get over yourselves with these post counts. The more importance this takes, the more we discuss removing them, as we want the focus to be on the content of the board and not these inconsequentials.
It’s not a measure of anything except how many times you had something to say. What really counts is what you said. Nothing else is truly meaningful – or should be. Do you count how many pages you read in a book? It’s the same sort of thing.

Well, yeah, kind of. It really helps that the pages are properly numbered 99.99% of the time, though
Please?
Yes, please - lose the post counts! The registration dates too, if you like - a board free of even the tiniest hint of a pissing contest. And there’d be fewer unhelpful whines like this post of mine.
what would happen to handy if you deleted post counts?
He could detonate or something?
