My Promotion Interview Thread

I have an interview for the position of manager of my department in 20 minutes. Wish me luck! I think I’m prepared.

Good Luck!!

(How did it go? I’ve given up all hope of promotion and must live vicariously.)

Rooting for you, RickJay. However, if this promotion would cut down on your time here, I’m against it. I’m too appreciatve of your humor, good sense, and willingness to gore oxes. What’s your boss’ number?

How’d you think you did, RickJay? Inquiring minds want to know!

Obviously out celebrating. Typical of the managing elite. Before you know it he’ll be out that oppressing and making synergistic cross function packages for matrix organized enterprises.

My god, they cracked open his skull and feasted upon the goo within!

I’m thinking it wasn’t a PROMOTIONAL interview. More like “Being Laid-Off is a Good Thing” meeting.
RickJay… Where are you???

I’m sure some will be disappointed, but, regrettably, they did not crack open my skull and feast upon the goo within. (Presumably that happens during the annual performance appraisal.)

To be quite honest, it went about as well as it could possibly have gone. It was two hours of thoroughly scintillating conversation. The director who interviewed me (and for whom I would be working) liked my resume quite a bit. He especially like my military record, my wide swath of experiences, and that my last listed “Personal Strength” was “I am a really nice guy.” (Yes, I put that on my resume.) He went on at some length about how impressed he was by a report I had written a few weeks ago for another manager; I was just happy anyone had read it, to be honest. Later in the interview, he asked me the most astoundingly brutally open questions - things like “we know the employees think management doesn’t listen to the… what do you think we should do?” and I came up with informed and constructive answers and even told him stuff he didn’t know about the history of the company. I think I gave him all the right answers and then some. He closed the meeting with profuse compliments and thanks. It was absolutely, without question the best job interview I’ve ever had.

Even if I do not get this particular job, I think I’ve made an impression, which is the main thing I wanted to accomplish.

Excellent! It sounds like you have a really positive attitude which is critical these days.

Good for you Rick. Sounds like no matter what happens it was two hours well spent.
