My psycho boss

::rant begins::
Well, once again the saga of Bunny’s job rages in the hearts of those who know her. What now? Well, only a boss who’s idea of communication is standing in front of your office door and screaming about how he didn’t get upgraded to first class and “it better never happen again. End of story. Period.” (his words). Okay, gee, he had a bad day or something. Made one more mistake (2 months later) after hearing for the past two months how great I was and how he can always depend on me. Again, another bout of yelling at me like I was a dog or one of his kids, like I had done the mistake on purpose. Here’s my problems with him:

  1. He takes every bit of gossip at face value, never stopping to find out if it’s true or even who said what. A screaming fit ensues at the unlucky victim. Even if he was in the wrong (which, honestly, he usually is, NEVER any apology)
  2. Screaming. See above.
  3. Foul language. I’ve worked with Sailors, Marines, and Construction workers and have never heard anyone curse like he does. He does it no matter who’s around and never apologizes. Now, I understand when someone gets upset, you have a bad day, you let a little “Sh**” escape or whatever. But, to do it all the time, while you are screaming at people is another thing.
  4. Rudeness.
  5. Unprofessional.
  6. Yells directly at people, making personal attacks, not at the bad situations. I can handle yelling at situations - no problem - but don’t yell at me!

Basically, he’s been a dick. Sorry to be rude-that’s usually not like me but this guy’s got my goat. Actually, now that I’ve decided to leave, I find him pathetically comical. My direct manager (he’s not it, thank god) and I were talking and she was saying that everyone here knows I do good work and when he has to spew (which he inevitably does) about how I was doing such a miserable job, they’ll all know that he’s a psycho. He’s also been getting rid of people right and left in a company that’s only had 20 people to start with. What nut! WEll, I’m on the job hunt…AGAIN. Dang, this sucks. I’ve already sent in my resume to a place and will be doing them as rapidly as possible.

::rant over::

Actually, since you’re leaving, maybe you can have a little fun with this wipe. He repeats every bit of gossip, huh? Maybe you can make sure he hears something fun. Something you want him to repeat. I had a boss like this once (no swearing, but every other type of psycho behavior), and I left as soon as I could. Have fun.

Bunny, I guess we work for the same boss:

Good luck with the jerk. I know how bad it can be.

George, I feel your pain, man!

Actually, I don’t even feel I can do what you did because we are a small private company invested in by a public company who thinks this guy walks on water. The public company are really good people but, to be perfectly honest, who are they going to believe if I do make a complaint: the lowly a.a. or the CEO who’s turning the company around? He’s doing a great job of taking the company where it needs to go, has great vision for the future etc, but he’s a pusher, not a leader. Oh well, my manager said it’s only a matter of time before he oversteps his bounds (she’s worked with the public company longer) and they see him for what he really is. I’m trying to keep him and his actions beneath me.

ok, I was wondering why in our situations they can’t get rid of the boss instead of making us good workers look for another job. In my case, I really don’t understand how my managers keep their jobs. It makes me think upper mngmt is bad, and the whole organization is bad. I just don’t know how they get away with it.

Maybe power corrupts. If we become bosses, maybe we won’t be much better. I doubt it though. I think I could do a better job than they do.

Damn, BunnyGirl, I hate to hear that! I remember not too long ago how excited you were to be leaving your previous, boring job. Maybe you and your fellow employees should stage a coup against that CEO. Best wishes in your job search (again); you deserve the best! I’m concerned about one thing though:

Uh…so what kind of job are you persuing now?
