My roomie is about to NOT get to Pennsic

:smack:

Yeah, that one too!

Mine has an accent, but it sounds just like me when I talk.

I have friends that went to Pennsic several times while I stayed home and guarded the house per billfish678. Never cost me anything, but one time as they left my best friend mentioned they may call for me to wire them bail money. I was never sure how serious (or not) he was. They always had a great time and brought back many pictures.

Maybe the barony I belong to is the exception, but beyond the occasional “could I borrow your lighter” we are a generally responsible bunch, homes, families, kids, etc. Out of 60 or so of us I think only 3-4 are unemployed. SCA and “hippy fair” are hardly synonymous. If anything the SCA is a far more conservative crowd I expected when I started and way more conservative than the ren fair crowd I have been exposed to.

Things have changed over the decades as the SCA has in effect “grown up”. Times were (back in say 1990) that a lot of SCA members were rather young and somewhat irresponsible. The SOP for Pennsic back in the day in my Barony was for most folks to have a crappy, just-out-of-college job that they would quit right before Pennsic. Of course they’d get back and have no money for rent, but hey, it was a shared house! Someone will make up the difference.

These days you have places like Camelot in New England, which is a well run series of family dwellings. It must look like a cult from the outside but everyone inside is responsible for families, jobs, etc.

That would be steampunk, not SCA.
