Just wondering, @wolfpup, did you know what that picture was when you posted it?
I appreciate that.
However linking Jews with causing plagues has rarely ended well in our history. And with hashtags specifically attacking Jews on Twitter this last weeks, among many antisemitic incidents over the last months, it’s kind of the equivalent of saying “I don’t see color” around issues of race. Unfortunately the context about Jews being attacked can’t be taken out of the equation, no matter how innocently.
I do appreciate your response and thank you for it.
I bet this Amish fellow is reading Gone Girl. Now that’s a good book!
There’s a scene in the Jewish comedy western The Frisco Kid, where an orthodox rabbi from Poland sees some Amish men from a distance. He is delighted and rushes toward them shouting in Yiddish. They say ‘Thy German is strange. Speak thou English?’
Looks like some people could use a hug! Unfortunately the alt-reich has co-opted the 90s chatspeak for hug so I will never surround a persons name with any sort of brackety-delimiter again.
Huh? ![]()
((( ))) was often used to mean “hugs”
Now it is often used by alt-righters to suggest the presence of a Jewish conspiracy. The parentheses suggest an ominous echo of the words enclosed therein.
Oh my God. We can even hug virtually as well as IRL.
Disturbing.
I’ll have to add snake wrangling at the Cowboy Church down on the highway as the weirdest ritual ever. You won’t die of COVID just snake venom. Win-win.
That makes no sense. As with my aloha shirts, I shan’t allow them to co-opt hugs.
we absolutely love that movie - we will joke when we chase something like one of the cats ‘I don’t want to hurt you, I just want to make you kosher’ =)
Jesus FUCK. . .are we still paying the leaded gasoline IQ tax, somehow? I despair in the face of such. . .not even stupidity, but. . . faulty wiring, I guess? I just . . .wow.
Sometimes I wonder if we should loosen up the liability laws and take the warning labels off of things.
Yes, it is a really profound sort of stupid.
(ha-ha… it’s the DEEP STATE. Hmm-hmm hmmmm.)
Profoundly, alarmingly fucking stupid, and as so, dangerous.
Where is Yakima Valley? Get outside of greater seattle and the ignorant redneck factor goes up faster than a covid outbreak in Texas.
Seattle has had a bit of a spike since the BLM protests started but fingers crossed looks to be flattening. And bit of a spike means from a dozen or couple of dozen new cases per day to over 400. I watch the UW testing website: UW Virology COVID-19 Dashboard
But ((( ))) is also being used by Jews themselves to surround their own names (often seen in twitter posts, for example), the “take back” the symbol.
It appears to be the “complete book of selichot [penitential poems/prayers], in the Polish tradition and that of the majority of congregations in Israel and the diaspora, along with the [???] foundations of penitence, rules of selichoth, order on the loosening of vows, and order on atonement” (or something along those lines)
This is a very strange thread.
You’re not new around here…
Not to speak for @wolfpup, but I didn’t see anything tying Jews to causing a plague in his post, I saw a post about a lunatic swinging a chicken over his head.
Well said.
…
I laughed much louder than I should have in my practically empty office building…
FWIW, Yakima is in Eastern Washington state.

I won’t hijack this thread further on this point, especially with someone who thinks interjecting the descriptor “lunatic” supports honest discussion.
