My Sister Beats Me

Several weeks ago I was over at my sister’s house and I told her about this crazy internet site that has been obsessing me for a few months, our own SDMB. I showed her some neat threads, and she seemed interested.

Sure enough, she soon pops up under the screen name Green Bean. Posts some interesting things, gets going, makes friends . . . the usual.

At the end of last week I’m looking at a thread she’s posted on, and I realize that she has more posts than I do. She’s beating me. Well, I say to myself, she’ll be away for the weekend and off the boards, so now’s my chance to catch up. And, I do. I pull ahead of her by a bit.

This afternoon, I log on again, and, you guessed it she’s beating me again. Right now she’s sitting on 300 posts and this is my 299th. I could post on a few more threads, but soon enough she’d log on shoot off a few posts and she’d be beating me once more.

Now I don’t really mind that my little sister has more posts than I do. Or that she gotten them in one month, less than half the time that I’ve be posting here (not to mention my lurking time). That would all be fine if she were simply spewing out fountains of dross. No, the thing about all of this that really annoys me is that the run of her posts are a whole lot more informative, funnier, better written, more creative, more interesting, more sympethetic, better researched, warmer, clearer, and otherwise superior to my own.

Dammit, Green Bean, I showed you this site, I refrained from beating you up too much when you were a twerpy kid, and I must have done a few other nice things, and this is how you repay me.

You don’t have a thing to worry about. I’ll have the jury eating out of my hand. Meanwhile, try to escape.

I must say, I had a good laugh in one of the threads where you (Billdo) mentioned one of the albums your father used to have, and GreenBean replied “He still has it, numbnuts!”

I wondered what the family relationship was.

I think its great you two are both here. A little sibling rivalry never hurt anyone at all, so I think I’ll just sit back and enjoy the show and hope to hell none of my sibs ever find this place

Don’t worry about it Bill.

As you can now see, I have been an obsessor of this site for many moons and I have so few posts.

It’s not a big deal.

Really.

Handy, can you lend me some posts?

Is there a posting contest that I am not aware of? D’oh!

Aww! Brother Bill! You da best.

I am really a little embarrassed at how high my post count has gotten in such a short time. As Bill knows, but nobody else does, I have had the flu on and off for the last month, so I have been stuck at home a lot. Fortunately, I have an appointment with the highly recommended Dr. Uy (that’s right!) on Thursday, so I should be fixed up real soon.

I am not posting this to pad my post count. :stuck_out_tongue:

Me neither.

No one here ever pads their post totals.

Ah, Bill. See, I know MY sister well enough not to tell her about the boards. Live and learn, my friend…

And for the record, the Three Minute Mystery threads are for padding post count.

No they’re not, SR! They continue a grand tradition of mind-sharpening games. That, and they give me the opportunity to heap shame upon you when I win.

Pray tell, SwimmingRiddles, is this the sister that you may be taking to the NYC Straight Dope get-together? How are you going to explain to her about the bunch of crazies there without mentioning the site?

And don’t think you can get out of it by trying to ditch her from the party. You’re going to have to give her some sort of explanation. (Um, I’m going to meet a group of folks I met online on a . . . a . . . bowling, bowling website. Yeah, that’s it. All we’ll be doing is talking about strikes and spares and stuff. You wouldn’t be interested.) My guess is that if she meets all of us before seeing the site, she may just be scared away. It’s may well be your only hope.

Wow! 300 posts in 2 months! Impressive!

Hey Billdo, I know exactly how you feel. Democritus has been like my younger brother for almost 20 years now. I told him about this place back in September or October. He now has probably twice as many posts as I do. Oh, well. I figure no big deal since I actually have a life outside of the computer. Well, at least I like to think that I do.

All there is to thinking is seeing something noticeable which makes you see something you weren’t noticing which makes you see something that isn’t even visable.

LMAO Oh dear God! I’m at work taking helpdesk calls and I read that just as a call came in. I damn near choked to death wanting to roar with laughter… the installer that called probably thought I was nuts!

Green Bean’s been a great addition to TSD, billdo. So thanks for bringing her here!

I do know how you feel, though. I dragged my little sister to another MB I used to post on about 2 years ago. She quickly became very popular on the board and all my friends became her friends. (And she’s way funnier than I am!)

But you know what, I didn’t mind at all. I love my li’l sis and I was thrilled that everyone else loved her too.

I twisted her arm to come post here, too, but she’s been so busy with work that she hasn’t had time to play here like I do. I think she’d be a great addition to TSD, though, so maybe some day I’ll get her to post more.

I’ve been thinking about this, Bill. It is, indeed, the same sister, though I DO have two of them.

What’s working in my favor is the fact that older sister is increadibly busy. That’s why she may or may not be coming to the Doperfest, she may have to stay home and do stuff. So the likelyhood of her blowing as much time on the boards as I do is unlikely.

But good point about having her check out the board, though. I’d better do that.

Billdo - It’s the quality of the posts, not the quantity.

Take care.
