I have mentioned a few times that my son (now 14) is really into bowling. When he started walking, he had a set of plastic pins, then progressed to bumper bowling, then a youth league.
Last night he called me from the bowling alley. He had his first 300 game. I was happy for him, but then today I’ve had two guys stop at my office to tell me how exciting it was for them just being there. The owner of the bowling alley said my son is now the record holder (for the alley) for youngest 300 game.
It was during an adult/child tournament. Most of the teams were father/son, but my son has an 18 year old friend who is as into bowling as he is, so they teamed up. I wish I had been there, but I worked late. His mother and grandmother were there, though.
After I congratulated him, I suggested he try to do even better.
OMG, anyone with a teenage son can imagine the kinda jokes revolving around the word “ball”. He has a two ball bag (seriously) on wheels with several older balls. He currently uses a 16 pounder (IIRC) that is state-of-the-art.
But he has made every play on words that can be made about “big balls” and “ball/bag”.
Hey, way to go! I was in a bowling league for a while (as the handicap helper on a team of regularly good bowlers) and I know how exciting it is just being around someone who bowls anything close to 300. Can’t imagine how spectacular it must be to be a 14 year old kid who achieves it!!
As the owner of a 279, I am jealous. That is awesome news, vetbridge!
And Khadaji, there is, but only if you are one of the…say, top 25 bowlers in the world. Otherwise, you’re better off remaining an amateur and winning as many local and regional tournaments as you can. There can be big money going that route as well.
Hooray for your kid!!! It’s a pretty impressive achievement. I still know the names of the people with perfect games that were painted on the wall at my local alley as a kid (alas, it’s a a Stop & Shop now). One of them was in high school when he bowled his perfect game. You and your son should both be proud.
Yes, he has won a few different local tournaments. I just set up a celebratory night on the town for tomorrow. We both love sushi, so sushi it shall be!
