Mind if I ask what sort of lab work you do?
No worries, it’s giving me a good laugh, and I can always use more humor in my life. I can’t remember the last time I got so much attention, squid or no.
Eonwe, I’m just a laboratory assistant at the hospital here. In the past, that included performing phlebotomy, but they’ve sort of separated the departments now, so I only did that for the first year.
Right now, I work in the receiving department all night, and we receive all the patient samples that come through. We charge them and assign them accession numbers in the computer, call to clarify orders or the like, troubleshoot problems, answer questions over the phone from the nurses and phlebotomists about things like test types, codes, and sample volumes. We spin whatever samples need to be centrifuged and send them over to the techs for the actual testing., or put them where they need to go for lab sendouts. We also run and mail medical reports.
I really like the work I do, for the most part.
Oh, and I used to live in South Burlington, and then Burlington, though I’ve migrated to Winooski, now.
