Hey, I could really be annoying and post like this. If you think purple is bad, how’d you like to read this all day? Now really, isn’t purple WAY better than this? We now return you to your regularly scheduled post color.
Well, color me clueless, here. [sub](HA! I kill me!)[/sub] I get all my SDMB pages black on white. The only color I ever get is blue, for links I haven’t cookied yet.
Here, let me try posting something in purple and then previewing it.
Nope. Still shows up black on white. And I don’t get any alternating backgrounds for each post, either.
And while we’re on the subject, my Spoiler boxes are always unspoiled, errr, spoiled . . . I don’t have to highlight them to read them.
Is this an issue with my browser, or perhaps my OS? I’m running IE 5.50.4807.2300CO on a Windows 95 platform. Can somebody tell me what up? Or should I re-post this over in GQ or ATMB and let everybody get back to talking about raisin’s purple posts?
Q.E.D., I saw a hamster today wearing glasses. “What the fuck?” I said to myself (I really need to work on talking to myself. I was on Risperdal for that a year and a bit ago). “Hamsters don’t wear glasses.”
So I asked the hamster, as only a bear can (I bared my paws and made like I was going to eat the thing, and it ran to its cage), “Hamster, why are you wearing those glasses?” I guess Stuart Little had given the thing English lessons, because it managed to squeak out, as only a hamster can, “Q.E.D. posted in yellow and it gave me a headache, so Qadgop gave me a prescription for these glasses until it goes away…he also asked me about the scars on my legs, the needle tracks and the little claw attached to my tail, but I ran away before he could catch me. A guy’s gotta keep up with these young hamsters somehow.”
The Cecilians for the Prevention of Cruelty to Hamsters, or CPCH will be calling you before too long. I wouldn’t leave Elizabeth, NJ if I were you.
Just a thought, kaylasdad, but check your browser’s font preferences.
Why don’t we all only post in purple when posting in threads started by raisinbread or as responses to posts by raisinbread?
• If the purple posts are an attention-getting device it will be effectively thwarted.
• If he/she really likes the color, then all his/her threads will truly be the “PURPLEST PLACE ON EARTH” - everybody wins!
[sub]This post left black so that people will read it[/sub]
Thanks, but when I do that I still get just a single text color on a single background color. So I guess I’ll post the problem in a more appropriate forum.
Because:
-
it would be FUCKING ANNOYING to many of us;
-
it would be EVEN MORE FUCKING ANNOYING to some of us;
-
I don’t know about you, but I like that people both can read my posts and wish to. I’d rather not offer a hearty “Fuck You!” to them just as an experiment with a “rebel without a clue” poster.
-
I’ve cultivated, over the past near 3 years, good relationships with at least a few moderators. They’d bash me over the head if I did that. And some of us aren’t quite as favorably looked-upon as I am;)
-
This place isn’t about achieving Ultimate Purpletude. It’s about something else entirely;)
Shit. Didn’t mean to come off quite so strong. Oops:(
Sorry iampunha, I should have been more clear that I was kidding.
My response has always been to immmediately skip over the entire post. I may as well use a more drastic tactic, now that it has been made clear that raisinbread is never going to stop doing this…
Well, you are in good company:
Prince
The California Raisins
and…
Barney.
Purple POWER!
No one seems to care me expressing my gothy self by posting in black all the time…
That’s the thing.
“Sweet” and “endearing” certainly do have their place. If raisinbread’s use of purple was occasional, or only in MPSIMS or something, I don’t think there’d be a poster on this board that would object at all. Ever. It’s the “all purple, all the time” that gets bothersome. That’s my take, anyway.
Raisinbread, the thing about the ability to use text colors is, they’re best when used sparingly. That way, they have an effect. Imagine how interesting your posts would be* if one word in each was purple. (Or perhaps one sentence.) The point is, you’d be differentiating. That is why the colors are available in the first place. They allow us to add expression to our posts.
When you use the same color for every word in every post, it has no effect. It’s “black” text, for you. And more than slightly hard to read, and gimmickly, from where many of us stand. YOU MIGHT AS WELL TYPE EVERYTHING IN ALL CAPS. (See the usefulness of discretion? If I had typed my whole post in allcaps, I wouldn’t have been able to make that sentence stand out.)
I don’t know if your posts are already interesting or not. I don’t read them because they’re purple and it’s just annoying enough, to me, to be skippable. Sorry.
I’m going to have to agree here. I have nothing against purple. I love the color. But whenever I start to read your posts, my eyes involuntarily squint and it’s not pleasant on the eyes to read.
I don’t think it should be banned. It’s totally your prerogative if you want to continue posting in purple. But as much as I’d like not to be judgemental, I’ll have to agree that yes, you come across as young and cutesy, and I generally skip over the purple posts. That says nothing about the actual quality of the posts, but if it’s hard on the eyes to read, I’m not going to read it, or at least only reluctantly, and you’re contribution is going to get missed more than someone who posts in black.
I’m all for non-conformity, so I wish it weren’t so, but this is how I see it.
I knew you were kidding. However, in any crowd this size there’s going to be someone who takes that seriously. my post was mostly aimed at that person or, one shudders at the thought, persons who might undertake such a thing.
Ultimately, if raisinbread doesn’t mind people entirely skipping those posts written in all purple, and doesn’t mind people thinking less of both poster and posts, there’s nothing else that really needs to be addressed unless the Powers That Be decide it’s just annoying enough to ask raisinbread to consider using the color more sparingly. And really, if raisinbread doesn’t care, that ought to tell you very quickly what raisinbread thinks of all of us here who’ve voiced our anti-PURPLE POSTING ALL THE TIME sentiment. At least it won’t take three hundred posts to know that, which is nice. The less drek I have to float through wondering if someone is posting because it’s fun or posting because they find it meaningful, the better:)
[sub]Good exercise in not using gender pronouns, this:)[/sub]
The discussion’s gone into stereo. (Resurrected thread in MPSIMS).
OK, now I have a headache.
Esprix
Ah yes. I think I shall change my name to So So News Siverback Gorilla. Whatcha think?!
I think that using all purple color texts is setting a bad precedent.
If it was kept soley to MPSIMS I don’t think I would mind.
In some forums, such as GD, posting in purple is like walking into a debate wearing a big honking rubber red nose. That blinks. (Randomly). I think it detracts from the seriousness of some topics.
Well, I must say I have no problem with the purple at all. I find it easy on the eyes (I actually find it easier to read than black on white). raisinbread does not strike me as one of the “one trick pony” posters or “gimmick” posters that pop up occassionally. Rather, she/he seems to be an intelligent poster who happens to like using purple.
If you find that it lowers your opinion of raisin or makes you skip her* posts then I feel that says more about you than raisin.
*I’ll stick to that gender for now.
I find it fucking annoying.
There’s no scientific proof for this, but it’s a fact.
