my use of purple

I find it fucking annoying.

What I find annoying is the fact that this has occupied three, maybe four threads? Enough. As I said before in one of the other four thoysand threads, you’re drawing negative attention because of your posts in purple, so I suggest to not do it any more.

I don’t feel it’s worth making much of a fuss over … but, since the OP is implicitly soliciting opinions … I find the purple posts mildly irritating. And I am tempted to skim over them as a consequence.

I find posters who use their own esoteric method of quoting others – fancy arrows or italics instead of (quote) (/quote) – far more irritating than a bit of purple. (Yep, I’m looking at you C K Dexter Haven. ;))

<shrug>

Not that either habit keeps me up at night.

I like it.

It doesn’t keep me awake at night but since we are offering opinions, the purple makes me think you have unicorn wallpaper and wear t-shirts with cute puppy dog iron-ons. Kinda hard to take you serious, really.

My impression may be totally off base, but that’s what happens when you only have the written word (and cutesy color) to go by.

Quite frankly, its attention whorism on a board that doesn’t dig attention whorism. This is not a small place, therefore “you can’t please all the people all the time”.

It isn’t about the color she posts in. There are myriad other annoying behaviors that shout ‘Look at me!!’. Its just as bad as only posting smileys, speaking of oneself in third person, or constantly harping on about just one subject. Its a gimmick. A way to try and stand out amongst the hyper-intelligent without displaying any brainpower.

Its fucking line-cutting.

Never speak with a unique voice. You are a Stepford poster and are expected to act as such. Do not do anything to bring attention to yourself. (swings watch) You are getting sleepy… you are going to do exactly what everyone else does… you are getting very, very sleepy. Do not try to be outstanding in any way…

Frankly this rampant discrimination against glyphs of colour is disgusting. Surely in this enlightened age all right-thinking people know that Diversity is to be encouraged?

The mods should enforce a quota of at least one non-black glyph per post. If they don’t, then they’re all Nazi scum!

Wow! Are we on the same board??

Damn straight! I work hard for no content, damn it, to have it all discounted because of a font choice!

istara, yep, all you need to post in a font is the font name and the following syntax:
This will be in Arial. If you have Century Gothic on your computer then wheee! This is my favorite font after Arial (which really is a gorgeous font, I know).

This whole thing reminds me a bit of the recent(ish) thread about “what images do you have of posters based on their username?” thread.
(cant be arsed to search as I’m going to the pub)

The purple gives me the mental image of a 15 year old goth wannabe. That will of course colour* my view of what the poster writes…
-shrugs-
*colour! hee hee! Geddit?

Somebody better alert Fenris, then.

So let me get this straight… people’s eyes are caught by the color of the post. They then proceed to ignore or otherwise discount the content because their eyes were drawn to it? I know we’re three pages into this and I should understand by now, but I don’t. There is a link in the chain I am missing. Can someone please fill it in for me?

let me try and help, then, erl. Person (who doesn’t like the posting in purple or yellow or red or whatever), eye’s drawn to the color purple, then immediately start rolling back, a la  makes it impossible to read said post.

(note, this is not my specific complaint. I find it more tiresome, strenuous, difficult to read because of visual problems)

Eris - this is sooooooooooo wonderful!!!

raisinbread, like Rosa Parks you have inspired me to “move to the front of the bus” and post in a style which uniquely defines me, regardless of how others might feel about i Sure, there will be “naysayers” who, unlike Rosa Parks, can only focus on the fact that my posts are “irritating”. To them, I say “nay, it is you, who are irritating! You, with the hat!” There will always be people who try to bring you down by having opinions about things, and you just have to fight through it and be your own person, no matter what anyone else says.

After all, while it may be slightly harder to read anyone who fails to make the effort to do so is certainly just demonstrating their prejudices. Homophonophobia?

Ditto.

Right on, Giraffe! Everyone needs a gimmick! Henceforth, I shall post everything in *italics, since I feel like everything I say should stand out in some way, even if it isn’t warranted.

Cheers all!

And thanks, *Giraffe *and *raisinbread for making me see the error of my ways!

Just testing my new sig. After all, I should explain why I’m calling attention to myself!
